Metal Raman spectroscopic study

The nearest La-C distance, 2.55(8) A (ionic radius of La(III) 1.15 A), is slightly larger than the nearest Sc-C distance, 2.53(8) A(ionic radius of Sc(III) 0.81 A), of Sc C82, which results in a weaker metal-cage interaction for La C82. In fact, the IR/Raman spectroscopic studies [31,32] on metallofullerenes by metal-cage vibrational mode measurements indicated that the La-cage vibration is much smaller in energy than those observed in other M C82 (M=Y, Sc, Tm)-type metallofullerenes. [Pg.69]

Infrared and Raman spectroscopic studies have been extensively carried out on PEO -metal salt complexes and have aided our understanding of the polymer structure, interaction of the ions with the polymer, as well as ion-ion interactions [67, 246]. [Pg.193]

The proceedings of a conference on metal-ammonia solutions have been published, featuring reviews of the physical properties of dilute and concentrated solutions, electrical, n.m.r., i.r., and Raman spectroscopic studies of diffusion, the solvated electron, kinetics, and solution structure."" Electron spin resonance in metallic Li-NHa systems has been investigated from 12 to 296 K. In the liquid solutions and in the cubic phase of Li(NH3)4 the conduction e.s.r. lineshapes are in agreement with theory. To a good approximation the solvated ions are the only spin scatterers in the liquid state. The paramagnetic susceptibility of liquid Li(NH3)4 indicates that the concentration of localized moments is low and they order antiferromagnetically below 20 K." ... [Pg.8]

The first in situ Raman spectroscopic study on electrochemical systems was reported on thin metal oxide and metal hahde film electrodes by Fleischmann etal. in 1973 [1]. The Raman spectroelectrochemi-cal measurements were made on thin films of Hg2Cl2, Hg2Br2, and HgO formed on droplets of mercury electrodeposited onto platinum electrodes. These mercury compounds have exceptionally high Raman scattering cross sections (very good Raman scatterers) so that the spectra of species as little as a few monolayers could be recorded on these high-surface-area electrodes. These experiments proved the viability of Raman spectroscopic measurements of... [Pg.572]

Beryllium(II) is the smallest metal ion, r = 27 pm (2), and as a consequence forms predominantly tetrahedral complexes. Solution NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) (59-61) and x-ray diffraction studies (62) show [Be(H20)4]2+ to be the solvated species in water. In the solid state, x-ray diffraction studies show [Be(H20)4]2+ to be tetrahedral (63), as do neutron diffraction (64), infrared, and Raman scattering spectroscopic studies (65). Beryllium(II) is the only tetrahedral metal ion for which a significant quantity of both solvent-exchange and ligand-substitution data are available, and accordingly it occupies a... [Pg.17]
