Metal fences

Approximately 90% of the zinc produced in the United States is used in the production of galvanized steel. Galvanization involves coating steel with a layer of zinc in order to protect it from reacting with the air, which can cause the steel to corrode. Common household objects and commercial products, including trash cans and metal fencing, are made out of galvanized steel. [Pg.69]

F. If the purpose of the investigation is not the study of roadside pollution or transport influence, sampling should be performed at least 200 m from highways, metal fences or cable conduits. Otherwise the content of Pb, As, Sb, Br, Cd may be influenced near highways and of Cu and Zn near cables. [Pg.145]

Connect outside metal structures to the earth ground array (towers, metal fences, metal buildings, and guy-anchor points). [Pg.1222]

Unalloyed zinc also is a relatively soft metal having a low melting temperatme and a subambient recrystaUization temperatme. Chemically, it is reactive in a munber of common environments and, therefore, susceptible to corrosion. Galvanized steel is just plain carbon steel that has been coated with a thin zinc layer the zinc preferentially corrodes and protects the steel (Section 17.9). Typical apphcations of galvanized steel are familiar (sheet metal, fences, screen, screws, etc.). Common applications of zinc alloys include padlocks, plmnbing fixtures, automotive parts (door handles and grilles), and office equipment. [Pg.432]

Note Maximum ambient levels for ethylene oxide are 0.3 ppb at the plant fence. Maximum total emissions of the VOCs acetaldehyde, acrylic acid, benzyl chloride, carbon tetrachloride, chlorofluorocarbons, ethyl acrylate, halons, maleic anhydride, 1,1,1-trichlorethane, trichloroethylene, and trichlorotoluene are 20 mg/Nnf. Maximum total heavy metal emissions are 1.5 mg/Nnf. [Pg.60]

A picket fence porphyrin system. Finally, examples of pendant donor groups attached to a porphyrin ring are known. A novel example of such a molecule is meso-a,a,a,a-tetrakis(o-nicotinamidophenyl)porphyrin (111) which is capable of binding two metal ions such that each has a square-planar environment with the square planes orientated coaxially to each other (Gunter et al., 1980). When a kinetically-inert metal ion such... [Pg.59]

Galvanizing is a process in which iron is covered with a protective layer of zinc. Galvanized iron is often used to make metal buckets and chain-link fences. Galvanizing protects iron in two ways. First, the zinc acts as a protective layer. If this layer is broken, the iron is exposed to air and water. When this happens, however, the iron is still protected. [Pg.548]

Homer s Iliad relates how Hephaistos, the lame god of fire, made a shield for Achilles And he threw bronze that weareth not into the fire, and tin and precious gold and silver.. .. Among the many decorations on the shield was a vineyard scene in gold and silver with a fence of tin and a herd of cattle, and the kine were fashioned of gold and tin.. .. The greaves were of pliant tin (66). This may have been a tin alloy, however, rather than the pure metal (62). [Pg.44]
