Other separation methods mentioned by Fisk and Remeika (1989) include centrifuging off low-melting fluxes, evaporation of a high-vapour pressure metal, cutting crystals from the melt, etc. In the conclusion of their review, Fisk and Remeika... [Pg.576]

A. 2-Hydroxymethylenecyclohexanone, Method 1. A mixture of 23 g. (1 g.-atom) of sodium metal cut in approximately 1-cm. cubes, 2 1. of dry ether, 98 g. (103 ml., 1 mole) of redistilled cyclohexanone, and 110 g. (120 ml., 1.5 moles) of ethyl formate is placed in a 5-1. three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, stopper, and vent tube. The reaction is initiated by the addition of 5 ml. of ethyl alcohol to the stirred mixture, which is then placed in a cold water bath. Stirring is continued for 6 hours. After standing overnight, 25 ml. of ethyl alcohol is added, and the mixture is stirred for an additional hour. After the addition of 200 ml. of water, the mixture is shaken in a 3-1. separatory funnel. The ether layer is washed with 50 ml. of water, and the combined aqueous extracts are washed with 100 ml. of ether. The aqueous layer is acidified with 165 ml. of 6N hydrochloric acid, and the mixture is extracted twice with 300 ml. of ether. The ether solution is washed with 25 ml. of saturated sodium chloride solution and then is dried by (he addition of approximately 30 g. of an-... [Pg.27]

Modeling and optimization of MBSE and MBSS of a multicomponent metallic solution in HF contactors is discussed in ref. [77]. A short-cut method for the design and simulation of two-phase HF contactors in MBSE and MBSS with the concentration-dependent overall mass-transfer and distribution coefficients taking into account also reaction kinetics was suggested by Kertesz and Schlosser [47]. Comparison of performance of the MBSE and MBSS circuit with pertraction through ELM in case of phenol removal presented Reis [78] and for copper removal Gameiro [79]. [Pg.519]

Most procedures needed can be done with a small metal cutting lathe and a standard drill press. If your lathe lacks a thread cutting setup, farm out those steps to a machine shop or use substitute methods of assembly. [Pg.106]

Metal fibers can be produced by metal-cutting processes, by foil cutting processes, powder metallurgically by the sintering of metal powders which can be extruded with the help of organic binders to fibers, by metallization of non-metalic fibers and also by the controlled chemical dissolution of wires to the required fiber thickness. Thin metal wires and thick metal fibers can in principle be produced by the same methods. [Pg.385]

Direct compacting is mainly used in producing mining tools, metal cutting inserts, and parts for construction applications. Around two-thirds of hardmetal production is compacted by this method. [Pg.348]

Developed two different dry cutting methods for cutting SWNTs, which are in the process of being patented. Neither process involves sonication and therefore, cut samples that are free from metals can be produced. [Pg.226]

Development of Controlled Cutting Method Without Metal Hydride Incorporation... [Pg.228]

A new controlled dry cutting method that non-destructively cuts nanotubes without incorporating a metal hydride alloy has been developed. [Pg.230]

Previous chapters mentioned the main methods to predict the stability of metal-cutting machining... [Pg.175]

By scanning the beam or moving an XY table, the electron beam can cut metal sheets. The small spot size produces a narrower kerf and a smoother cut siuface than other thermal cutting methods. [Pg.449]

Hearle et al. [4] described several special holders that are modifications of the metal plate method. Specimen holders which have holes for packing materials such as fibers, yams, or fabrics for razor blade cutting are useful methods which involve the insertion of a looped thread through the hole and the placement of the material in the loop. This material is then pulled through the hole and sectioned with a razor blade. Modifications to the stubs on any SEM can be made readily in a machine shop. [Pg.98]
