The rate of MTT reduction was determined adding the agent to cell incubation medium on 0.5,2, and 5 h after irradiation of samples. In the case of non-irradiation of fiillerenes C60 in incubation medium, the indexes of total metabolic state of thymocytes, EAC, and L1210 cells did not alter compared to the control. 

Of the SSRIs, paroxetine is the agent most likely to cause weight gain however, in this study the authors reported no change in body mass index during the 3 months of treatment, suggesting a more direct effect of paroxetine on metabolism. Further work will be needed to see if similar metabolic effects are associated with other SSRIs and in patients with other treatment indications. 

Other classes of C5d otoxic agents, e.g. cinti-metabolities, were subsequently identified and used to treat cancer patients. Their efficacy evidently was limited by their relative nonselectivity for proliferating cells the narrow therapeutic index of c5dotoxic agents means that escalation of drug doses is constrained by damage to normal cells and maximum doses which can be safely administered to patients are often suboptimal to achieve total... 

These results indicate that the metabolic disposition and thereby the pharmacological activity, whether efficacious or toxicological, could be modified by selective substitution of deuterium for hydrogen. A new combination antibacterial contains 3-fluoro-D-alanine-2-d which is an excellent example of selective deuteration to enhance the pharmacological activity of a therapeutic agent.7 The metabolism in vivo of 3-fluoro-D-alanine is reduced several-fold by substitution of deuterium for hydrogen on the 2-position without loss of antibacterial activity. This enhances the therapeutic index of the compound because metabolism of 3-fluoro-D-alanine leads to the formation of an inactive antibacterial and fluoride which is nephrotoxic.
