Mercury fluorosulfonate

Fluorosulfonic acid (1.0 g, 10 mmol) and aminal (5.0 mmol) were added at — 20°C to a suspension of NaCN (0.5 g, 10 mmol) in MeCN (10 mL). The mixture was stirred at 80°C for 3 h in a flask, sealed with a mercury vent. Then i-PrjNEt (0.65 g, 5.0 mmol) was added to the cooled solution at 0°C. Extraction with pentane (3 x 30 mL) gave crude products which were crystallized from pentane or distilled in a Kugel-rohr apparatus. [Pg.1590]

Colorless liquid, completely stable up to 900°C. Reacts explosively with water. Fumes in air. At room temperature does not attack S, C, Se, Te, Pb, Ag, Cu, Zn, Fe, Cr or Mn, but does react with Sn with mild evolution of gas. Mercury is also slightly attacked. Rubber, cork and sealing wax are rapidly destroyed. Vigorously attacks S, Pb, Sn and Hg at higher temperatures. Reacts exothermically with acetone to give a dark red-brown color (color test for fluorosulfonic acid). Reacts with benzene and chloroform, splitting off HF. Ether reacts exothermically and with effervescence to form the ethyl ester. If pure, does not attack glass. [Pg.178]

Benzenesulfonyl Fluoride. For experiments with fluorosulfonic acid, Steinkopf recommends the use of an iron vessel with a screw top fitted with a mercury-seal stirrer, dropping funnel, thermometer well, and gas-exit tube. A small open-top iron or platinum container without a stirrer can be used only in very small-scale fluorosulfonations. [Pg.164]
