From a perfumery point of view, trace ingredients again play an important role in the typical aroma of citroneUa oil. In 1980, IFF chemists isolated and characterized two nonterpenic compounds, melonol (2,6-dimethyl-5-hepten-l-ol [4234-93-9]) and melonal (2,6-dimethyl-5-heptenal [106-72-9]) with interesting green-melon odors (10). Although neither of these had previously been reported in nature, melonal has been a product of commerce for a number of years. [Pg.307]

A fragrant substance found in cucumber and melon produces the NMR spectra set 38. The identity and structure of the substance can be derived from these spectra without any further information. Conditions CDCI3, 30 mg per 0.3 ml, 25 °C, 400 MHz ( //), 100 MHz ( C). [Pg.117]

A few products, such as bananas, tomatoes, melons, cucumbers and some crops of potato, are better kept at higher temperatures. These conditions vary with the variety, state of ripeness when picked and required time of storage. [Pg.202]

Aziridine 269 (Scheme 3.98), on treatment with pyrazole (270) and subsequent TFA deprotection, gave P-pyrazolylalanine 271, first isolated from Citrullus vulgaris (a water melon) and isosteric with histidine [148]. Treatment of 269 with 1,2,4-ox-adiazolidine-3,5-dione 272 gave (S)-quisqualic acid (273), an active ingredient of the ancient Chinese drug Shihchuntze, an anthelmintic made from the seeds of Quisqualis indica [148]. [Pg.109]

Some alloys are softer than the component metals. The presence of big bismuth atoms helps to soften a metal and lower its melting point, much as melons would destabilize a stack of oranges because they just do not fit together well. A low-melting-point alloy of lead, tin, and bismuth is employed to control water sprinklers used in certain fire-extinguishing systems. The heat of the fire melts the alloy, which activates the sprinklers before the fire can spread. [Pg.325]

Gobert, A, Rivet, JM, Cistarelli, L, Melon, C and Millan, MJ (1997) Alpha2-adrenergic receptor blockade markedly potentiates duloxetine- and fluoxetine-induced increases in noradrenaline, dopamine and serotonin levels in the frontal cortex of freely moving rats. J. Neurochem. 69 2616-2619. [Pg.422]

The collected sample weight must be more than 4 kg in most crops at each sampling time. For light crops such as strawberry, 2 kg or more should be collected. The number of individual units sampled is more than 10 for crops such as watermelon, melon, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, radish, and pumpkin. [Pg.46]

Where samples are large, e.g., cabbage, melons, etc., the unit (cabbage) may be cut into quarters. Select the opposite quarters of the unit sample, which are then used to make the final composite sample, thus reducing the sample volume by half for easier handling, freezing, and shipping of the samples. [Pg.186]

The minimum detectable level is estimated with the dinifroaniline signal-to-noise ratios (S/N). With fortification levels between 0.2 and 0.5mgkg the recovery of trifluralin from plant matrices is 70-99% with the LOD/LOQ being 0.005 mg kg according to the analytical method of the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. In multiresidue analysis by GC/NPD, the percent recoveries of pendimethalin from each crop with a fortification level of 0.25 mg kg were brown rice 70, potato 70, cabbage 80, letmce 89, carrot 84, cucumber 64, shiitake 74, apple 76, strawberry 99, and banana 99%. The LOD for each sample was 0.01 mg kg for pendimethalin. In residue analysis by GC/ECD, recoveries of the majority of dinifroaniline herbicides from fortified samples of carrot, melon, and tomato at fortification levels of 0.04—0.10 mg kg ranged from 79 to 92%. The LODs were benfluralin 0.001, pendimethalin 0.002 and trifluralin 0.001 mg kg for the GC/ECD method. ... [Pg.394]
