Mediterranean flora

The Canarian laurel forest is a relic of the Tertiary Mediterranean flora.

All the alien species entered the Sea of Azov from the Black Sea via the Kerch Strait with currents or with ships. Selected species negatively affected the ecosystem, while the others enrich its flora and fauna [22,26,27]. Selected Black Sea fish make their seasonal migrations to the Sea of Azov for spawning and fatting. In the years with enhanced supply of the Black Sea waters, purely marine species of Mediterranean and Atlantic origins invaded the Sea of Azov. Some of them spread over the entire sea and even featured outbursts of their abundance. 

In the Black Sea, there are 304 species of macrophytes referring to four alga divisions and one division of higher flowering plants [22,23]. Among the alga, there are no endemic species this implies a relatively young age of the Black Sea flora. Antoine-]irdme Balard (1802-1876) grew up in Montpellier near the French Mediterranean coast. At the age of 17 he began to study at the ficole de Pharmacie and was examined in 1826. During his studies, he examined the flora in some salt marshes near Montpellier. Salt was won there from numerous lagoons on an annual cycle - dammed in the spring, allowed to evaporate in the summer and collected in the fall [50.2]. The young student observed that crystallized sodium sulfate was thrown away. Could it not be used in some way At least for Antoine-Jerome himself the substance became useful. In spite of his youth, he discovered a new elemenL which took him into the history of science. It occurred when he made different experiments with crystals and mother liquor.
