Mechanical static long-term loading

P(3) Testing shall consist of loading the element, or a representative sample, to determine specified mechanical properties, under static, dynamic or long-term loads. 

Mechanical properties can be determined by a variety of standard tests, under both static and dynamic loading. Accelerated aging tests are necessary for long-term implantation applications. 

With the practical approach, most plastics are required to withstand only short-term static mechanical loads—that is, no dynamic loads. Thus, conventional short-term static tests generally suffice. The engineering approach recognizes that many plastic products have been used since their inception to take long-term dynamic or static loads. Thus, they consider fatigue, torsion, creep, and other data that include plastic s viscoelastic properties. See kiss plastic processing. 

The nature of the mechanical loading, either static, dynamic or long term, will depend on the purpose of the testing and on the existing knowledge of the laminate properties. 

The empirical prediction of long-term behavior from such technical test methods may often not lead to the desired level of certainty since the failure of specimens under static shear loads may involve random fracture mechanisms, which cause a wide scattering of the results in... 

For certain products long time dynamic (creep, fatigue, impact, etc.) mechanical load performances in different environments are required. Dynamic loading in the present context is taken to include deformation rates above those achieved on the standard laboratory-testing machine (commonly designated as static or quasi-static just reviewed). These slower tests may encounter minimal time-dependent effects, such as creep and stress-relaxation, and therefore are in a sense dynamic. Thus the terms static and dynamic can be overlapping.
