McCullough studies

A number of compounds from the types RTeX3, RTeXU, R l eX 2 and related species were studied in classic papers on secondary bonds from N.W. Alcock et al. J.D. McCullough et al.6 and S. Husebye et al. 11,111 fundamental... 

Other studies have estimated the consumption of fruits or vegetables (rich in flavonoids) and have reported an inverse relationship with some types of cancer but in different extent among men and women (Park and others 2007 McCullough and others 2003 Voorrips and others 2000).

From the late 1970s onwards, efforts to synthesise conjugated polymers rapidly expanded and numerous new materials were prepared. Many of these still proved to be intractable substances that were difficult if not impossible to purify and characterise. The maximum levels of conductivity achieved on doping often fell well short of the metallic range. Such properties meant that the majority of these materials attracted little attention beyond the initial reports, and certainly no commercial interest. An example of the few polymers produced at this time that have been extensively studied subsequently is polythiophene (PTh), Fig. 9.2(h). Although this polymer was also reported in the nineteenth century (Meyer, 1883), the first reliable synthesis appeared in 1980, see McCullough (1998). Another example is polyfluorene, Fig. 9.2(i), which was prepared chemically and electrochemically in 1985, see Rault-Berthelot and Simonet (1986). Much subsequent synthesis has been directed to the inclusion of pendent groups to either enhance solubility,...

A decade ago Laaksonen et al. published a paper giving an outline of the finite difference (FD) (or numerical) Hartree-Fock (HF) method for diatomic molecules and several examples of its application to a series of molecules (1). A summary of the FD HF calculations performed until 1987 can be found in (2). The work of Laaksonen et al. can be considered a second attempt to solve numerically the HF equations for diatomic molecules exactly. The earlier attempt was due to McCullough who in the mid 1970s tried to tackle the problem using the partial wave expansion method (3). This approach had been extended to study correlation effects, polarizabilities and hyper-fine constants and was extensively used by McCullough and his coworkers (4-6). Heinemann et al. (7-9) and Sundholm et al. (10,11) have shown that the finite element method could also be used to solve numerically the HF equations for diatomic molecules. 

A crystal structure analysis of diphenyl diselenide has been carried out by Marsh (169) and of the isomorphous di-p-chlorophenyl diselenide and ditelluride by Kruse, Marsh, and McCullough (157). Bowen (85) in his electron diffraction work on trifluoromethyl derivatives also studied the diselenide. The results show nonplanar, unbranched diselenide and ditelluride groups. 

These dynamics studies are rigorous in the sense that the accuracy of the calculation is only limited by the accuracy of the potential energy surface. Since the first successful TD calculation for the collinear H -I- H2 reaction was reported by McCullough and Wyatt... 

Addition of simple ethylenes to polynuclear aromatic compounds has been reported for a variety of systems in recent years.10 The light-induced 1,2-addition of acrylonitrile to naphthalene has been intensively studied by McCullough and co-workers.ei It is, however, now interesting to read that polymerization of the ethylene can occur under such conditions.82 and his group have carried out several studies in this area and they have now described the stereospecific 1,2-photocycloaddition of 1-naphthonitrile with cis- and //wts-l-phenoxypropenes.88...
