Marking of packages

U.S. Stockpile. A U.S. government stockpile goal for vanadium pentoxide of 6985 t contained vanadium was aimounced on May 1, 1980. This is equivalent to 12,470 t of V2O3. At the time of the announcement, the stockpile contained only 4911 of vanadium ia the form of the peatoxide (28). Physical requiremeats are that V2O3 be suppHed as brokea flake, ah. of a size to pass a 2.54-cm screea and not more than 5 wt % to pass a 4.7-mm screen. The preservation processes should be designed to prolong the life of the product by inhibiting the effect of natural elements. While the conditions in the factory can be measured, those outside the factory can only be predicted. Markings on packaging are therefore essential to warn handlers of any dangers or precautions they must observe. 

Superimposed on these records are markings of environmental perturbations which sometimes inhibit, and sometimes accelerate carbonate deposition. In the final analysis, however, there has to be an answer, why organisms respond in such a systematic fashion. In all probability these phenomena are connected to the high demand for calcium at all levels of the cell regulatory system. Only at times of lower activities or when the calcium pool runs over will the excretory system package and export the surplus calcium to the periphery of the cell where it may be utilized in carbonate deposition.

All packaging must be tested by approved test methods by approved testing stations. All possible variations of packaging from all potential suppliers must be tested. The results are then scrutinised by PIRA (in the UK) and, if satisfactory, a certificate is issued. There are strict rules about the marking and labelling of UN approved packaging which must be followed to the letter, or the product which is classified as dangerous may be refused transport of any kind.
