A more extensive set of mass absorption coefficients for K, L, and M emission lines within the wavelength range from 0.7 to 12 A is contained in Heinrich s paper in T. D. McKinley, K. F. J. This article should be consulted to ascertain the probable accuracy of the values and for a compilation of coefficients and exponents employed in the computations. 

In atoms in which electrons in M or A shells take part to some extent in molecular orbital formation some transitions in the L spectmm may be broadened. Similarly, in an M emission spectmm, in which the initial vacancy has been created in the M shell, there is a greater tendency towards broadening due to molecular orbital involvement.

In the last step, the MX molecule acts as a chaperone to bring the M and Y together to form the electronically excited halide MY.
