Lubricated reinforced grades

Wear may be high when reinforced parts are in contact with unreinforced parts. This situation could lead to excessive wear of unreinforced parts. Use of lubricated reinforced grades may reduce wear when in contact with the unreinforced component. 

The resistance to abrasion is closely related to other factors such as hardness, resiliency, and the type and amount of added fillers and additives. The resistance to abrasion depends on factors such as test conditions, type of abrading material, and development and dissipation of heat during the test cycle. It is most often measured by the weight loss when a material is abraded with an abrader after a number of revolutions (at least 5000). The Taber abrader is widely used. Eor softer materials, less abrasive wheels with a smaller load on the wheels may be used. Wear may be high when reinforced parts are in contact with unreinforced parts. Mica is available in a variety of grades and finds application as a semi-reinforcing filler and more often as a processing dry lubricant owing to its flake-like structure. It is also used as a dusting agent. 

Some self-lubricating grades of polycarbonate are marketed, containing specific additives and reinforced with glass or carbon fibres. The coefficients of friction are in a good range, from 0.1 up to 0.21. Wear resistance is not as good as for PA 66. 

Some self-lubricating grades of polyarylketones containing specific additives, and possibly reinforced with glass or carbon fibres, are marketed. The coefficients of friction are good, for example 0.1 at room temperature, and remain unchanged at high temperature 0.12 at...

Amitel TPEs are based on polyether ester or polyester ester, including specialty compounds as well as standard grades. Specialty grades are classified as (1) flame-retardant UL 94 V/0 0.031 in (0.79 mm), (2) high modulus glass-reinforced, (3) internally lubricated with polytefrafluoro ethylene (PTFE) or silicone for improved wear resistance, and (4) conductive, compounded with carbon black, carbon fibers, nickel-coated fibers, stainless-steel fibers, for ESD applications.
