Loosen

This arises because as the temperature in increased from ambient, the main initial effect is to loosen the hydrogen-bonded local stmcture that iitiribits reorientation. Flowever, at higher temperatures, the themial motion of the water molecules becomes so marked that cluster fomration becomes iitiiibited. 

Remove the patient to the fresh air, and loosen clothing at the neck. If breathing has stopped or is extremely w eak, gh e artificial respiration and continue until the patient is transferred to hospital or until a doctor arrives. 

If the patient is in a state of shock (f.e., pale, faint or collapsed, sweating, cold) treat by lying flat, or preferably with the legs raised approximately one foot, loosen clothing around the neck, keep warm but not hot (one to two blankets) and transfer to hospital or obtain medical attention urgently ... 

In a 250 ml. separatory funnel place 25 g. of anhydrous feri.-butyl alcohol (b.p. 82-83°, m.p. 25°) (1) and 85 ml. of concentrated hydrochloric acid (2) and shake the mixture from time to time during 20 minutes. After each shaking, loosen the stopper to relieve any internal pressure. Allow the mixture to stand for a few minutes until the layers have separated sharply draw off and discard the lower acid layer. Wash the halide with 20 ml. of 5 per cent, sodium bicarbonate solution and then with 20 ml. of water. Dry the preparation with 5 g. of anhydrous calcium chloride or anhydrous calcium, sulphate. Decant the dried liquid through a funnel supporting a fluted Alter paper or a small plug of cotton wool into a 100 ml. distilling flask, add 2-3 chips of porous porcelain, and distil. Collect the fraction boiling at 49-51°. The yield of feri.-butyl chloride is 28 g. 

Remove the victim to the open air, and loosen clothing at neck. To counteract chlorine or bromine fumes if inhaled in only small amounts, inhale ammonia vapour or gargle with sodium bicarbonate solution. Afterwards the patient should suck eucalyptus pastilles, or drink warm dilute peppermint or cinnamon essence, to soothe the throat and lungs. 

The effect of aromatic substrates on the formation of N02" is shown in the considerably increased substrate selectivity over that obtained with NO2+ salts. On the basis of the experimental data it is suggested that in these nitrations a weaker nitrating species than NO2+ must be involved in the primary interaction with the aromatic substrates. This incipient nitronium ion then attaches itself to the aromatics in a step giving high substrate selectivity. Whether the incipient nitronium ion is the nitracidium ion (H2NO3+), protonated acetyl nitrate (CH3COO—HN02 ) or probably a transition state of any of those unstable species to N02, in which water is loosened, but not yet completely eliminated, is difficult to say and no direct physical evidence is available. 

Melander first sought for a kinetic isotope effect in aromatic nitration he nitrated tritiobenzene, and several other compounds, in mixed acid and found the tritium to be replaced at the same rate as protium (table 6.1). Whilst the result shows only that the hydrogen is not appreciably loosened in the transition state of the rate-determining step, it is most easily understood in terms of the S 2 mechanism with... 

As the bulkiness of the substituents increases, the chains are prevented from coming into intimate contact in the crystal. The intermolecular forces which hold these crystals together are all London forces, and these become weaker as the crystals loosen up owing to substituent bulkiness. Accordingly, the value for the heat of fusion decreases moving down Table 4.2. 

In addition to the circuit breaker, there have been a number of other SMA appHcations for various functions in electric power generation (qv), distribution, and transmission systems. One such device is a thermal indicator that provides a signal visible from the ground of a hot junction or connector in a distribution yard. Such hot spots occur as a result of the loosening of bus bar connectors owing to cycHc temperature as the electric load varies. In addition to the use of SMA flags as a hot-spot indicators, actuators that automatically maintain the contact force in a bus bar connection have been demonstrated. Based on a BeUeviHe washer fabricated from a Cu—Al—Ni SMA trained to exhibit two-way memory, these washers, when heated by a hot joint, increase their force output and correct the condition. A 30 mm diameter washer 3 mm thick can produce a force of over 4000 N. Similar in purpose... 

Soybeans. Vktuady ad soybeans processed in the United States are solvent-extracted with hexane to recover the od. This traditional process is outlined in Figure 4. Beans arriving at the plant are cleaned and dried, if necessary, before storage. When the beans move from storage to processing, they are cleaned further and may be dried and adowed to equdibrate at 10—11% moisture to facditate loosening of the seed coat or hud. They are then cracked. 

Cleaners. Cleaner formulations can be classified with respect to the abiUty to emulsify oils, keep them in solution or to reject oils, spHt them out of solution. The latter type loosens the oil, and the separated oil does not dissolve but is rejected, and usually floats to the top of the cleaner solution. For the cleaner that rejects oil, the tank needs to be skimmed constantly. This is most easily accompHshed usiag the overflow weir, sump, and recirculating pump arrangement. OH-rejecting cleaners last longer. 

Prior to anv machineiy alignment procedure, it is imperative to check for machine pipe strain. This is accomplished by the placement of dial indicators on the shaft and then loosening the hold-down bolts. Movements of greater than 1 mil are considered indication of a pipe strain condition.
