Lock downs

A determination should be made as to what chemical processing opera-tion/facility should be immediately locked down, which specific access control procedures implemented, what initial security perimeter established, and whether a possible secondary malevolent event may occur. The initial act may be a diversionary act. [Pg.143]

One practical example of the consequences of change control is that in the regime of system/instrument change control, hardware, software and operational aspects such as routine operation, maintenance and data integrity are locked down in fixed configurations. Any modification that has not been anticipated in the initial qualification requires testing and documentation. [Pg.35]

Analytical change control is the monitoring of any changes to analytical methodology, which has to be justified and evaluated for its performance and impact on the quality of the product. For process analytical methods, the change control approach requires significant documentation and can impede the efficient optimization of the method in the early phases of implementation if parameters have to be locked down based on an insufficient data set. [Pg.35]

It is important to appreciate that some data may be transient and will never be stored to durable media, while other transient data may be processed to derive data before being stored. Both transient and stored data must be protected from unauthorized, inadvertent, or malicious modification. It is expected that a register of authorized users, identification codes, and scope of authority of individuals to input or change data is maintained. Some computer systems lock-down data, denying all write-access. Secnrity arrangement is discussed in detail elsewhere in this chapter. [Pg.295]

Data Historians should be vahdated. Data must be protected from unauthorized and unintentional modification. This might be achieved through locking down data (i.e., no subsequent write permissions given after data created). The requirement for any audit trails needs to be specified. Data retention requirements need to be defined in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements. Software used to retrieve data should be validated. Any dependencies on storage media need to be understood and managed. Backup and restore are key processes. System interfaces should also be specified and tested. [Pg.938]

In summary, the past four years have witnessed a virtual revolution in the technology of stratospheric free radical and trace specie detection techniques. Sensitivities unparalleled even in the laboratory are now becoming available. Of equal importance, there is now a manifold of totally independent techniques extending from the far vacuum ultraviolet to the radio region of the electromagnetic spectrum. This research will lock down the vertical concentration of the major free radicals within the next five years — placing our understanding of the stratospheric ozone layer on a profoundly more satisfactory foundation. [Pg.367]

If the medical treatment facility (MTF) or hospital becomes contaminated with chemical agent, not only does it become useless to render care, but it also exposes the staff and all other patients to chemical contamination. All precautions must be used to avoid this issue. Only very limited access to the hospital or MTF should be permitted. At most, only one or two entrances to the hospital should be used by incoming patients and employees. At these entrances, proof of decontamination or noncontamination, in the form of checking the individual with a chemical agent monitor (CAM) for contamination, must be presented before admission. AU other entrances must be locked down. Security guards posted on the inside of aU entrances would prevent unauthorized entrance from outside. Remember, people exiting the hospital could hold the door open to admit contaminated individuals from the outside. [Pg.677]

All hospital plans should include provisions for a proportionate response to the arrival of contaminated casualties, with procedures for rapid lock-down and establishing entry and exit restrictions. Most ambulance service plans already provide for sending an immediate alert to all hospitals designated to receive casualties whenever a major incident is declared. Although patients may have already self-evacuated before the emergency services arrive, ambulance plans should also provide for warning all... [Pg.180]

Stone ejection rib Portion of the tread rib designed to throw off stones with the aid of normal tire fiexing. Located up to 75% down in the tread grooves to prevent small stones from locking down at the base of the grooves where they cannot be ejected. [Pg.671]

The vast majority of our work is filmed with two cameras. I have one camera that s run by my assistants They re locked down on a tripod, in a position where they can see most of whafs going on. [Pg.263]

Penguins must withstand extreme cold for up to 120 days without food and then be able to dive up to 50 m into freezing waters in order to feed. In dry conditions, then-coats function as an excellent wind barrier eliminating heat loss though convection. When the animal needs to dive for food, the coat transforms into a smooth and waterproof skin eliminating any trapped air. This switch in functionality is achieved by a muscle attached to the shaft of the feather. When the muscle is locked down, the coat becomes a water-tight barrier and when released the coat transforms itself into a thick air-filled windproof coat. [Pg.91]

The Otto Bock Body-Powered Elbow mechanism uses a springlike clamp that locks down on a shaft when twisted in one direction but opens to release a shaft when twisted in the other. This is a unidirectional mechanism whose main advantage is simplicity. A similar mechanism can be found in some children s bicycles, where the child backpedals to brake the bike. A disadvantage of this type of mechanism is that over time the lock can slip because of wear and tear on the spring on the elbow shaft. [Pg.841]

Reproducible results are achieved only with a constant environment. Laboratory benches exposed to the sun during part of the day should be avoided because of temperature variation. Most development chambers are of such a size that they may conveniently be placed in an environmentally controlled space, room, or bath as a way of maintaining consistency. It is advisable to weigh down the lid of the chamber so that it cannot be dislodged by vapor pressure or heat produced by the mobile phase, which would disturb the equilibrium within the system. Some newer chambers include latches that actually lock down the lids. [Pg.337]

Children slide and in and out of roles at dizzying speeds. But by ten years old, psychological sediment has set in and they re expected to lock down into predictable personalities— although I m proud that many gamers seem to have escaped some of this cultural curse. [Pg.284]

Part of the previously mentioned cultural shackles involves submitting to a personality lock-down. [Pg.293]

An elementary model leading to a stress estimate due to this effect can be constructed in the following way. Du, Fischer, and Winey (2003) and Zeng et al. (2010) used both methods in attempts to produce the PMMA/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites. They found ASP resulted in better CNTs dispersion. Unlike the solvent casting process where nanoparticles may agglomerate during solvent evaporation, in ASP, the rapid precipitation of PMMA-CNTs very effectively lock down the well-dispersed structure. [Pg.4]

Consider the advisability of locking down the facility to only those essential to ongoing operations and business transactions. [Pg.194]
