Disadvantages. Again, a specialized probe-head is necessary to allow the rotor axis to be changed, usually usmg a stepper motor and a pulley system. Angle switching needs to be as fast as possible and reproducible. [Pg.1487]

An interferometric method was first used by Porter and Topp [1, 92] to perfonn a time-resolved absorption experiment with a -switched ruby laser in the 1960s. The nonlinear crystal in the autocorrelation apparatus shown in figure B2.T2 is replaced by an absorbing sample, and then tlie transmission of the variably delayed pulse of light is measured as a fiinction of the delay This approach is known today as a pump-probe experiment the first pulse to arrive at the sample transfers (pumps) molecules to an excited energy level and the delayed pulse probes the population (and, possibly, the coherence) so prepared as a fiinction of time. [Pg.1979]

A final study that must be mentioned is a study by Haitmann et al. [249] on the ultrafast spechoscopy of the Na3p2 cluster. They derived an expression for the calculation of a pump-probe signal using a Wigner-type density mahix approach, which requires a time-dependent ensemble to be calculated after the initial excitation. This ensemble was obtained using fewest switches surface hopping, with trajectories inibally sampled from the thermalized vibronic Wigner function vertically excited onto the upper surface. [Pg.310]

Since usually the reference electrode is not equipped with a capillary probe (see Fig. 2-3), there is an error in the potential measurement given by Eq. (2-34) in this connection see the data in Section 3.3.1 on IR-free potential measurement. The switching method described there can also be applied in a modified form to potential-controlled protection current devices. Interrupter potentiostats are used that periodically switch off the protection current for short intervals [5]. The switch-off phase is for a few tens of microseconds and the switch-on phase lasts several hundred microseconds. [Pg.448]

An ac and/or dc current probe for the oscilloscope. Especially needed for switching power supply design. Some appropriate models are Tektronics P6021 or P6022 and A6302 or A6303, or better. [Pg.10]

Shell boilers may be fitted with internal level controls. Here controls are mounted on the crown of the boiler with the floats or probes extending to the water surface through the steam space. To check the operating function of these, it is necessary to drop the water level in the boiler, or, alternatively, a separate electronic testing device can be fitted. With fully flooded hot water boilers, a single level control or switch is fitted to protect against low-water condition. [Pg.356]

Make-up water. A semi-sealed section within the main tank will feed water from the treatment plant to the main tank either through a separate make-up tank or. In either case, the water level will be the same in both sections, excluding the ullage left for condense returns. Control of the make-up water level may be by float valve, float switches or conductivity probes. These methods allow water to flow through the treatment plant, although conductivity probes or switches permit a positive flow and avoid the risk of slippage. [Pg.359]

The driving force for the transfer process was the enhanced solubility of Br2 in DCE, ca 40 times greater than that in aqueous solution. To probe the transfer processes, Br2 was recollected in the reverse step at the tip UME, by diffusion-limited reduction to Br . The transfer process was found to be controlled exclusively by diffusion in the aqueous phase, but by employing short switching times, tswitch down to 10 ms, it was possible to put a lower limit on the effective interfacial transfer rate constant of 0.5 cm s . Figure 25 shows typical forward and reverse transients from this set of experiments, presented as current (normalized with respect to the steady-state diffusion-limited current, i(oo), for the oxidation of Br ) versus the inverse square-root of time. [Pg.323]

Note that while prototyping, it is a bad idea to insert a current probe (through a loop of wire), anywhere in a critical trace section. The current loop becomes an additional inductance that can increase the amplitude of the noise spikes dramatically. Therefore practically speaking, it can often become virtually impossible to measure the switch current or the diode current individually (especially in the case of switcher ICs). In such cases, only the inductor current waveform can really be measured properly. Sometimes we can place a small sense resistor instead of a current loop, because a good resistor will not create inductive kicks at least. [Pg.150]
