Local organisation

Use local organisations or Yellow Pages to provide cost effective, commodity services, or services that are only used infrequently by R D, for example fine chemicals supplies, instrument manufacture and glass blowing. 

Active Partnerships—we build long-term relationships and work in collaboration with communities and local organisations. 

Finally we would like to acknowledge the local organising committee for their careful planning of the practical arrangements.

The old organisational state is a rural landscape an increased flux of energy produces macro fluctuations of the local organisation and then some instabilities. These instabilities cause an increased dissipation of energy, the system becomes difficult to maintain when a threshold is reached (e.g. a prevailing of urban structures over the former rural ones) a new organisational state results (from Ingegnoli, 2002).

During a site inspection inspectors would review both the local organisation for work with biological agents as well as the physical containment facilities with reference to the relevant guidance. Inspectors are able to provide advice on the interpretation and implementation of guidance in particular circumstances and frequently made recommendations for improvements in facilities or procedures. A range of more formal enforcement actions can be taken where this is necessary. 

This special issue of Progress in Colloid and Polymer Science contains a selection of the contributions, all of which have been peer reviewed. We take this opportunity to thank all the colleagues who accepted to review these manuscripts. We also thank all the members of the scientific committee, the local organising committee and the sponsors who helped to make ECIS 2001 such a memorable meeting. Finally, we hope that you will enjoy reading the contributions to this special issue, which we feel highlights some of the important contemporary advances in the area of colloid and interface science.
