TThe loading parameter varies along the channel. [Pg.425]

In experimental load studies, the measurable variables are often surface strain, acceleration, weight, pressure or temperature (Haugen, 1980). A discussion of the techniques on how to measure the different types of load parameters can be found in Figliola and Beasley (1995). The measurement of stress directly would be advantageous, you would assume, for use in subsequent calculations to predict reliability. However, no translation of the dimensional variability of the part could then be accounted for in the probabilistic model to give the stress distribution. A better test would be to output the load directly as shown and then use the appropriate probabilistic model to determine the stress distribution. [Pg.173]

The aeeurate ealeulation and proper evaluation of losses within a eentrifugal eompressor is as important as the ealeulation of the blade-loading parameters. If the proper parameters are not eontrolled, effieieney deereases. The evaluation of various losses is a eombination of experimental results and theory. The losses are divided into two groups (1) losses eneountered in the rotor, and (2) losses eneountered in the stator. [Pg.249]

Erom the previous sections it is clear that there are a number of different possible models that can be applied to the contact of an elastic sphere and a flat surface. Depending on the scale of the objects, their elasticity and the load to which they are subjected, one particular model can be more suitably applied than the others. The evaluation of the combination of relevant parameters can be made via two nondimensional coordinates X and P [16]. The former can be interpreted as the ratio of elastic deformation resulting from adhesion to the effective range of the surface forces. The second parameter, P, is the load parameter and corresponds to the ratio of the applied load to the adhesive puU-off force. An adhesion map of model zones can be seen in Figure 2. [Pg.21]

In preparing this figure, the authors of Ref. 28 assumed no wave attenuation through the wall thickness H, so Pr and ir are the normally reflected blast loading parameters on the loaded side of the wall or slab. [Pg.26]

Eqs. (4.140) and (4.150)-(4.152) are used to evaluate the response of the model composites in cyclic loading and the displacements 6 and 8, can be expressed as a function of the alternating stress, Aff, and the number of cycles, N. In experiments, degradation of the interface properties, e.g., the coefficient of friction, p or A(= 2pjfc/a), can also be expressed in terms of the cyclic loading parameters, Aoptical methods (with a microscope) or by means of more complicated instruments (see for example Naaman et al. (1992)) in fiber pull-out. Alternatively, they can be directly determined from the load and load-point displacement records in the case of fiber push-out. [Pg.160]

If a satisfactory operating range is not established using minimum and maximum loading parameters, intermediate-loading conditions must be tested. [Pg.573]

For an elastic behavior of the solid phase, fl 1 only depends on the loading parameters, that is the macroscopic strain E and the fluid pressure p, and on the evolving morphology of the r.e.v.. We formally account for this evolution of the morphology through a parameter , which micromechanical interpretation will be obtained in particular cases. [Pg.324]

Using these results Van de Velden et al. (2008) were able to recommend design rules for operation of such reactors in terms of the gas velocity/solids loading parameters. For example, to ensure a narrow residence time distribution (operating, in effect, in plug flow), the superficial gas velocity should exceed the transport velocity by approximately lm/s and the solids circulation rate should exceed 200kg/m2s. [Pg.160]

In most composites with desirable tensile properties, linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) criteria are violated.30,31 Instead, various large-scale nonlinearities arise, associated with matrix damage and fiber pull-out. In consequence, alternate mechanics is needed to specify the relevant material and loading parameters and to establish design rules. Some progress toward this qbjective will be described and related to test data. This has been achieved... [Pg.16]

The occurrence of either partial slip or gross slip condition is dependent on the material mechanical properties, the magnitude of the coefficient of friction and the contact loading parameters (normal load, imposed displacement). When dealing with non-adhesive elastic materials, the effects of these... [Pg.163]

Nine types of cores with different characteristics (power resource, fuel loading parameters, fuel emichment) were developed for first-generation reactor installations. Any of them could have been unloaded and stored at Gremikha. [Pg.322]

The mixtures were treated in vibratory mill at different load parameters. Mechanical activation caused the decrease of synthesis temperature from 1200°C (calcination for 100 h) to 850°C (calcination for 20 h) in both cases. [Pg.104]

Using the modified GPD curve (Fig. 7), the flow parameter (X), and the flood pressure drop, find the allowable packing load parameter, Lp. Fig. 7 shows pressure drop isobars at flood for different flow parameters. Determine the Souders-Brown coefficient at flood ... [Pg.735]

When a Tucker3 model is used for calculating the scores of a new sample, the loading parameters and the core parameters are usually considered fixed. This turns the problem into a multiple linear regression problem. Assume that the first mode is the sample mode and a new sample, Xnew, of size J x K is given. This sample matrix corresponds in size to one horizontal slice of the original array (Figure 6.4). The problem can be expressed... [Pg.123]

Therefore, m may be determined conditional on A and B as the overall average of X — AB. By alternating between updating the loading parameters and the offset, the model parameters will be estimated upon convergence. [Pg.255]

The investigation of defect patterns in oxide scales formed under a graded scale loading seems to be promising since critical load parameters could be analysed ex situ. However, there are a series of experimental difficulties and open theoretical problems in realising this approach. [Pg.155]
