Load control

Fatigue tests were performed under load control mode on a Schenck horizontal fatigue testing machine with hydraulic grips and a maximum load capacity of 25 kN. Tension-tension constant amplitude fatigue tests were carried out at three stress levels 60% a , 70% Cu and 80% a at two different stress ratios R = 0.1 and R = 0.5. The test frequency was kept constant (f = 3 Hz) for all the tests. [Pg.46]

Remote supervision and automatic load-control of generating units, load dispatclt centres and suh-siatioris to maintain the desired operating parameters, including load sharing. [Pg.737]

It is desirable to have additional axial-load control on the multistage compressor. A balance piston, also refeired to as the balance drum, can be located at the discharge end (see Figure 5-46). The balance piston consists of a rotating element that has a specified diameter and an extended rim for sealing. The area adjacent to the balance piston (opposite the last stage location) is vented, normally to suction pressure. The differential pressure across the balance piston acts on the balance piston area to develop a thrust force opposite that generated by the impellers. The pressure on the... [Pg.208]

Contrary to spherical contact, the minimum force, or the pull-off force under load-controlled conditions, is dependent on the elastic constant of the system... [Pg.89]

Electromechanical Controls. Electro-mechanical control devices are typically used for load control (lighting, ventilation, and heating) in buildings with no feedback signal. The most common device is the electromechanical timer, in which a small motor coupled to a gearbox is able to switch electrical contacts according to a predefined time schedule. They are still in use today, applied to loads with simple scheduling requirements. [Pg.297]

In general, the number of boosters determines the operational flexibility of the unit with respect to the refrigeration load. A single booster unit operates continuously, regardless of load. A two booster unit can operate at 50% load by shutting off one unit at lower load levels it uses a pressure controller on the steam actuated by the condenser pressure. Because jets are not usually very flexible with respect to steam consumption and vacuum, load control may be in increments as compared to continuous variation. If a 100-ton unit is expected to operate an appreciable portion of the time at 25% of load, it may prove economical to install a four-booster unit and to operate only one for this period. Auxiliary ejectors remove uncondensed water vapor and air from the main condenser. [Pg.290]

If the flue is operating under negative pressure, which is often the case, care should be taken that no tramp air is allowed to enter the flue upstream of the sampling point, as this will give erroneous measurements. The trim system should be set to follow the practical firing curve and, in the event of a malfunction, be disabled so that it ceases to have any influence on the air/gas ratio, which reverts to the normal load control only. [Pg.278]

Modulate the evaporator pressure according to a varying load, controlled by the load temperature. [Pg.111]

The patterned aminopropyl functionalities have been tested for uniform reactivity in an effort to probe degree of site isolation (7). For example, the patterened aminopropyl functionalities quantitatively reacted with chlorodimethyl-(2,3,4,5-tetramethyl-2,4-cyclopentadien-l-yl) silane (7). In our hands, a densely-loaded control material was found to have only 66% of the amine sites react with the silane functionality. This value is in line with... [Pg.274]

For any experiments involving the use of phosphospecific antisera, it is crucial to develop the blot (usually a separate one) with an antibody that detects the protein of interest irrespective of its state of phosphorylation. This loading control allows one to assess whether all lanes contain similar amounts of that protein. Ideally, the ratios of the signal strengths for the phospho and total antisera should be calculated from densitometric analysis of the blots. Care must be taken when doing this for proteins that resolve into multiple bands (dependent on their states of phosphorylation,... [Pg.162]

Fatigue Testing. Fatigue testing was conducted using an MTS closed-loop electrohydraulic test machine that was operated in load control, tension-tension mode. Loads in this experiment ranged from a minimum of 10% of the maximum load to maximum loads of 200-700 psi. [Pg.195]

Fig. 4. Effect of (-)-linalool on GFAP expression in the spinal cord of neuropathic mice. GFAP expression was analyzed by western blot in the lumbar spinal cord (L4-L5 segment). Homogenates were from the ipsi(I)- and contra(C)-lateral side of the cord from SNL animals treated either with linalool (100 mg/kg s.c.) or vehicle for 7 days (pool of three animals for each experimental group). Actin was used as loading control. Fig. 4. Effect of (-)-linalool on GFAP expression in the spinal cord of neuropathic mice. For smaller hydro power systems, such a solution is considered to be complex and additionally a danger exists of rapid control valve movement introducing damaging surge pressure waves in the pipelines or instability in the overall control system (Roberts, 2002). A preferable solution to maintain frequency close to its nominal value is the utilisation of load control. For the implementation of this scheme, secondary or even dump controllable loads are switched on and off, according to frequency-deviation measurements. [Pg.10]

In some cases, after careful evaluation, other valves may be considered for EBVs such as spring-loaded control valves that fail closed, back flow check valves (these are not normally considered reliable enough for EBVs by many engineers), and excess flow valves. Excess flow is the loss of material from the confined environment of a vessel or pipeline. Two approaches are available for the detection and valve action of excess flow valve systems (1) External, where excess flow is detected outside the valve itself, and (2) internal, which is within the valve unit and has limited applications. Excess flow conditions are detected more readily because of loss of resistance to flow than because of loss of pressure. All excess flow detection systems are based on product physical properties as well as flow rate. A change of products or process conditions may require a change in the excess flow detection system. For example, a number of excess flow valves are rated for low pressure and are made of materials not suitable for hydrocarbons. [Pg.120]
