Casting liquid

Spray the inside of the mold with a casting release agent. Hix and pour liquid casting plastic into the mold until It Is approx. I/A inch deep. Now pour in 3/16" or l/A" Steel ball bearings until you have a layer of them covering the bottom of the mold. Add casting plastic If needed so that the layer of balls is barely covered. Set Che mold a-Slde and let the plastic cure. N0T Plaster of Paris or body putty can also be used to cast the balls in. The ball bearings are the easiest to work with but any metal can be used (nuts, bolts, screws, nails, etc.).

PnBA is not commercially available in a form suitable for use as an encapsulation pottant, but the n-butyl acrylate monomer is readily available at a bulk cost of about 0.45/lb. As a result of the developmental program, a 100%-pure PnBA liquid was developed that could be cast as a conventional liquid-casting resin, and that subsequently cures to a tough, temperature-stable elastomer. Modules fabricated with the PnBA elastomer have successfully passed module engineering tests.

Thermosetting polyesters are widely used for moldings, laminated or reinforced structures, surface gel coatings, and liquid castings. Cast products include furniture, bowling balls, simulated marble, gaskets for vitrified clay sewer pipe, pistol grips, pearlescent shirt buttons, and implosion barriers for television tubes. 

In recent years there has been an industry trend to simplify the production of abrasive products and to reduce production costs through development of liquid casting systems. Commercial processes and products have been developed based on polyurethane bonds and more recently on epoxy bonds. Much remains to develop the potential of such liquid abrasive bonds for the abrasives industry. 

The synthesis of polymeric membranes is mostly achieved through the phase inversion process. Phase inversion is one of the most versatile and economical processes used to develop polymeric membranes. In this process, a membrane is prepared from a thermodynamically stable solution, in its most basic form consisting of a polymer and a solvent. This polymer solution is often called the casting solution, and is sometimes also called dope. The casting solution is cast onto a supporting material, which is typically nonwoven, but sometimes also woven, resulting in a thin liquid-cast-polymer film, further referred to as cast film, which is later transformed into a solid membrane. The phase transformation from liquid to solid is induced by disturbing the stability of polymer solution. 

With the advent of the new biocompatible liquid cast polymers (Biomer and Avcothane), it is possible to fabricate exceptionally smooth surfaces. Adverse compatibility reactions are minimized because not only are the pol3miers inherently less thrombogenic but also since they can be liquid case, a continuously smooth, seamless blood pump can be fabricated.
