Linkage analyses

One mapping methodology strives to estimate these recombination distances directly by examining the inheritance of marker alleles and trait values from generation to generation within a collection of families. Various different family structures can be used for this type of analysis, using both human data and data from model organisms. [Pg.99]

Methylation (linkage) analysis To determine linkages between sugars. [Pg.515]

Twenty populations were sampled with plants from Hailuoto, at 65°00 N, representing the northernmost site and material from Hanko, at 59°49 N, representing the southernmost collection site (and, incidentally, the southernmost point of land in the country). Five samples represented central Finland with the remainder originating from the southern part. Fifty-five compounds were detected by GC-MS analysis, 53 of which were identified. The data obtained were subjected to complete linkage analysis, which differentiated several clusters that corresponded moderately well with geography. Genetic distance values derived from the RAPD data correlated well with chemical distance values determined from the terpene data (r=0.41, P<0.0001). [Pg.45]

Lederberg s construction of a branched chromosome map on the basis of linkage analysis was mentioned in the last section. As late as the 1950s, Delbruck continued to hope that the physical order of loci on chromosomes would contradict their order as determined by linkage analysis this was supposed to show the limitation of reductionist explanation in biology.12... [Pg.195]

Linkage analysis by studying RFLP patterns in two or more generations of family members afflicted with a disease is useful for genetic counseling for the prediction of inherited disease, in spite of its limitations, such as the possibility of genetic recombination or the presence of more than one gene locus in different family members. [Pg.31]

Since the late 1970s, Southern blot analysis has had greater applicability in linkage analysis and detection of acquired chromosomal rearrangements. Currently, this technique forms the basis of a majority of protocols used in the biopsy... [Pg.53]
