Surfactants and Detergents Uses. Perhaps tire largest use of sulfonic acids is the manufacture of surfactants and surfactant formulations. In almost till cases, the parent sulfonic acid is an intermediate which is converted to a sulfonate prior to use. The largest volume uses for sulfonic acid intermediates arc the manufacture of heavy-duty liquid and powder detergents, light-duty liquid detergents, hand soaps (see Soaps), and shampoos. [Pg.1569]

Sulfonation and sulfation processes are utilized in the production of wateT-soluble anionic surfactants as principal ingredients in formulated light-duty and heavy-duty detergents, liquid hand cleansers, general household and personal care products, and dental care products. Other commercially significant product applications include emulsifiers, lube additives, sweeteners, pesticides, medicinals. ion-exchange resins, dyes and pigments. [Pg.1565]

On the other hand, as production of liquid detergents, either heavy- or light-duty, increases, alcohols with shorter carbon chains become important because of their good liquidities and high solubilities. In fact, this tendency has already appeared in some commercial products. [Pg.157]

The situation is different for products designed for light duty, such as for hand dishwashing and softening fabrics. These liquids are generally superior in performance to their powder counterparts to the extent that these existed in the first place. This is also true of shampoo formulations, for which there is no common solid equivalent. [Pg.2]

Surfactant base for the preparation of high foaming liquid dlshwashes, car washes, and light duty cleaners. Also used in shampoo, bubble bath, and hand cleaner formulations. [Pg.70]
