Although we have asserted that the design phase is the center of gravity of the life cycle, programming activity lies at the very heart of software development. For this reason, it is important that the auditor pays attention to the individuals involved and the standards by which they work, since both have an important bearing on the quality of the code produced. 

To establish costs with regards to a specific item of plant, sound feedback must be an element of the company s program and subsequent records must be maintained. To be worthwhile these must include all costs if not, the assumed life-cycle cost over a number of years could be misleading. 

It follows that any maintenance program introduced for specific plant and equipment must be designed so that all maintenance costs are recorded. This would then be taken into consideration when the life-cycle cost of the item is assessed, as it should be added to the loss of production if this has occurred due to any maintenance malfunction. Care must be taken when presenting the life-cycle cost to ensure that all elements within the cost cycle have been effective. 

I recommend that you follow a more traditional systems development life-cycle model (SDLC) when developing a comprehensive SAS macro-based reporting system. Unlike much of the one-time-only SAS programming that occurs for a clinical trial, you need to ensure that a general-purpose SAS macro system is robust enough to handle any problem it encounters. In 2005, a comprehensive comparison of LCIA toxicity characterization models was initiated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) in their life cycle initiative.
