Leak detection during manufacture

Exposures to ethyl acrylate monomer are most likely to occur in an occupational environment via skin contact and inhalation. However, the closed systems used during manufacture and transportation will limit worker exposures to those that may occur during routine process maintenance, periodic plumbing leaks, and the collection of quality control samples. Under these conditions, exposures are further limited by the use of industrial hygiene controls and personal protective equipment. The acrid odor of ethyl acrylate, which can be detected at 0.001-0.005 ppm, also serves to limit exposure. Studies of monomer production workers have indicated that... [Pg.1090]

Successful operation of steam generator (SG) holds the key to achievement of high capacity factors. SG requires the high quality during manufacture and a sensitive leak detection system for sodium-water reaction detection and mitigation. PFR incident of failure of 40 tubes of superheater has led to redefinition of design basis leak for SG from the earlier considered incident of double ended rupture of one tube [6]. [Pg.182]

Active research is conducted in the field of laser interferometric sensors, with potential applications in military and manufacturing industries. Oil and gas companies may also drive development of sensors for leak and gas detection during drilling. In addition, commercial applications for laser sensors will open up in areas of surveillance as acoustic laser interferometry technology is developed. [Pg.1115]

The adhesives were applied according to manufacturers directions to scaled down models of an application. Failure of the vulcanized, rubber to metal bond was detected by a loss of resistance resulting from the establishment of a leak path under the rubber. The samples were connected electrically to the zinc anode. The temperature, specific gravity, electrical conductivity and pH of the solutions were monitored during the test. [Pg.177]
