Leadership vision

Lack of company leadership, vision, or understanding of the company s environmental impacts and the absence of appropriate environmental policies and procedures that can benefit the business while being protective of the environment.

Sometimes leaders are uncomfortable talking about their vision and its ethical foundation. They worry they will sound too idealistic or preachy. To become more comfortable and persuasive when talking about these things, each leader composes and rehearses a three-minute, conversational speech to explain the leadership vision and the ethics behind it in his or her own words. Leaders use their own illustrations and examples of the organization s core values and how things will be different, including behaviors and practices that are familiar and important to their direct reports. 

Once I had decided on a career in chemistry, I was determined rather single-mindedly to make a success of it. I sometimes think about what would have happened had I chosen a different occupation or field. Having a rather competitive nature, I could probably have done reasonably well in a number of other areas. Certainly for some fields you must be born with a special talent. Musical talent, artistic ability, business acumen, leadership ability, and vision can be further developed. 

One observable feature of the best of these kinds of places is that they are so much about champions . The concentration of vision, energy and determination to set up and maintain these kinds of services, often in the teeth of opposition, is a key ingredient in the success of organizations like Kids Company in London, or The Venture Playground in Wales. This kind of leadership is not replicable in any mundane sense, although many of its underlying principles are. Being child centred should mean just that - a place where children come first, where they can appear under their own steam, and once there, can rely on adults to be there for them, whatever the weather. 

I already had a vision, or mental map , of how the Day should be and, in part, its aims and objectives. I feel the two prlnclped developments that I achieved for myself were negotiating and leadership skills. 

Project leadership may not, by some definitions, be regarded as true leadership. But it certainly demands many of the qualities typically associated Avith leadership - imagination and vision, tenacity and often audacity, to say nothing of influencing and personal skills. 

Giving direction implies leadership - communicating a vision of what you believe should be achieved, having ideas about how to get there should anyone need to know, and nudging people in the right direction to arrive. The role is essentially that of impresario of the action.

The chance for a change in leadership in all three countries is very low. In Azerbaijan it is almost certain, and indeed can be easily observed from the pictures placed everywhere in Baku, that Heidar Aliyev s son will succeed him. Reframing leadership is a leadership style that will be valuable in assisting future leaders to create new opportunities within their environments.
