Noncrystalline aluminosilicates (allophanes), oxides, and hydroxides of Fe, Al, and Mn, and even the edges of layer silicate clays to a lesser extent, provide surface sites for the chemisorption of transition and heavy metals. There are usually three possible arrangements of these layered silicate clays, which can be obtained when they are dispersed in a polymer matrix. If the polymer cannot intercalate between the silicate sheets, a non-intercalated microcomposite is obtained. Beyond this traditional class of polymer-filler composites, two other types of composites can be obtained. On the other hand, Bhattacharya et al. have reported the plasticization effect of organically modified layered silicates on dynamic mechanical properties [13]. In this work, nanocomposites of SBR have been prepared using various nanofillers like modified and unmodified montmorillonite, SP, hectorite etc. It has been observed that the Tg shifts to lower temperature in all the nanocomposites, except for systems from hectorite and NA. This is due to the fact that clay layers form capillaries parallel to each other as they become oriented in a particular direction.
