Laurie acid was only detected in the early stages and in small quantities (Table 5.7). In general, the percentage of the saturated acids was found to decrease as the fruit matured. In the first 4 weeks, the percentage of palmitic acid was 22.2% in Fuerte while at maturity the percentage was 14% (Abou-Aziz et al., 1973). Oleic and palmitoleic acids were found to increase markedly with maturity while linoleic and linolenic acids decreased with maturity. Oleic acid was found to be the main add at the maturity stage with 63% in Fuerte. [Pg.132]

To learn more about the possible effects of ionic impurities on volume resistivity, we added known quantities of various impurities which are frequently present in polyvinyl chloride. Lead chloride is postulated as the end-product when lead compounds are used to stabilize polyvinyl chloride. Laurie and benzoic cids probably result from wasteful decomposition of the lauroyl and benzoyl peroxides used to initiate the polymerization reaction. Of these impurities, only benzoic acid had any noticeable effect on volume resistivity (Table III). [Pg.149]

Laurie Oils There are two major lauric oils—coconut oil and palm-kernel oil. Both are tropical oils, and both are tree crops. They differ from all other commodity oils in their higher level of medium chain acids, especially lauric, and slightly from one another as shown in Table 2(b). They find limited use in food products and are used extensively in the production of surface-active compounds. For more information, see Sections 5.3 and 5.10. [Pg.266]
