Lithium-ion battery packs generally consist of modules coupled in series and/or parallel, and modules in turn consist of series and/or parallel coupled cells. The assembly process is shown schematically in Figure 14.13. However, when the capacitance is large, the thermal dissipation is important since it also affects the cycling life, apart from the safety. Hard carbons were synthesized by carbonizing various combinations of phenolic resin precursors in order to obtain a material with a structure suitable to be used as the anode material in lithium ion battery systems, i.e. a carbon with a large pore volume and small pore openings.
