Laminates used in strip packaging are combinations of various plies created to obtain the properties not provided by one material alone. They use a minimum amount of materials and are cost-effective. However, they conflict with certain environmental issues, because recycling or reuse is virtually impossible. Examples of widely used laminations are polyester/foil/... [Pg.601]

The effect of environmental moisture on the physical stability of effervescent tablets in foil-laminate packages containing microscopic imperfections was examined. Physical stability, after storing at different RH and temperature conditions, was assessed by noting whether the tablet components reacted prematurely. [Pg.1463]

The resin is an isophthalic polyester resin. Its principal advantage, besides low cost, lies in its rapid and controllable cure chemistry and therefore in its ease of use within hand lay up fabrication processes. There are several types of polyester but isophthalic resins offer the most attractive combination of mechanical properties and environmental resistance (i.e. reduced corrosion and maintenance costs, and good resistance to attack by chemicals). Moreover, previous studies on effects of immersion and weathering (exposure to wind, rain, sun) show that the performance of glass FRP laminates are generally good, especially with isophthalic polyester resin. [Pg.555]

Phenol-formaldehyde polymers, including novolaks and resoles, have a number of applications in coatings, finishes, adhesives, composites, laminates and related areas. Concerns have been raised regarding the continued use of phenol-formaldehyde resins due to the various toxic effects of formaldehyde. Consequently, there has been active investigation for alternative sources of these types of oligomers and polymers with a consideration for environmental compatibility. [Pg.454]
