This is a rather labyrinthine possibility. It suggests that, like the serpentine body of the Loch Ness monster, which rises and falls above and below the water in drawings that you see of it, the effects of antidepressants might rise and fall below and above the threshold of clinical significance, depending on how severely depressed the person was to begin with.

As an antiemetic, diminishes vestibular stimulation, depresses labyrinthine function, and acts on the chemoreceptor trigger zone. As a sedative-hypnotic, produces CNS depression by decreasing stimulation to the brainstem reticular formation. Mechanism of Action An anticholinergic that reduces excitability of labyrinthine receptors, depressing conduction in the vestibular cerebellar pathway. Therapeutic Effect Prevents motion-induced nausea and vomiting. 

Prochlorperazine has less potentiating effects on hypnotics than chlorpromazine and does not produce lethargy and hypotension. It may be used in the treatment of migraine, Meniere s syndrome, and other labyrinthine disturbances, and is an effective choice in PONV. 

Cinnarizine is available only in oral formulation. It is useful in preventing motion sickness and reducing the symptoms from labyrinthine disorders including tinnitus and vertigo. 

These three steps constitute what I call the Langevin approach .
