Knitted fabrics scouring

With knitted fabrics it is necessary to remove the knitting oils by either alkaH treatment or solvents. Where water-immiscible oils have been used and the fabric is to be hot dyed (80°C or above), a minimum scour to remove dirt and stains can be sufficient, the rest of the oil being removed during the dyeing process. 

Detergent systems for all scouring operations on synthetic, woven, and knit fabrics, especially for continuous scouring of polyester afterscour to assure maximum crockfastness. 

The goods may be solvent scoured in rotary drum machine, restricting the load to 50% of the machine maximum capacity and the centrifuging time to 1 min to avoid the formation of pressure creases. Warp knitted fabrics are, in general, more stable to tension than weft knitted fabrics. 

For the tension and pressure measurements, a desized, scoured and bleached 100% cotton interlock knit fabric (205 g/m ) was treated with 50% PEG-1450-11% DMDHEU (Fixapret ECO)-5.1% citric acid-5.1% MgCl2.6H20 to a wet pickup of 110%, then cured for 3 min at 110 °C, washed in warm water to a pH of 8.5 to neutralize acid catalyst, excess water removed, then oven-dried for 7 min at 85 °C. The resultant fabric had a wt. gain of 65% and had shrinkage in one direction (longitudinal) when wet with various polar solvents (28% with water 25% with 1 % aq. NaCl 10% with 95% ethanol and 7% with acetone). Three inches of a 1 x 6 inch strip of the treated fabric was clamped between the jaws of an Instron (Model 4201) having a 10 lb load cell, completely wet with each of the four solvents and tension load/stress measured after initial wetting to a maximum time of 15 min.

Non-foaming scouring agent for jets and other equipment where foaming causes problems. By its chemical nature, PENTEX OS-NF is particularly well-suited for removal of oily substances, such as knitting oils, from knit goods and fabrics. 

T-C 9080 is a non-flammable, non-toxic spot remover designed for application to soiled fabrics during the inspection. T-C 9080 is also most effective as the detergent in a scouring bath for knit goods to facilitate removal of yarn lubricants.

Scouring of knitted goods, wool and blended woven fabrics in discontinuous rotary-drum washing machines has been established in many countries for a number of years. Equipment for continuous preparation and dyeing from non-aqueous solvent have been developed by several companies (Table 5.1).

Since knitting yams are unsized and usually combed to reduce seed and trash content , there is normally any need for treatment prior to bleaching. The knitting lubricants which replace the size on woven fabrics are usually self scouring, but sometimes from their very volume may create problems with foam and stains in wet processing or in the knitting machine which need to be treated with solvent containing auxiliaries.
