Accdg to the late W.H. Rinkenbach (Ref 51) "Pressure is described as a thermodynamic coordinate , and this is correct. Basically, it is an increase in the number of molecular or atomic kinetic impacts per unit area of a container. This may be caused by increase in temperature or by increase in the number of molecules or atoms per unit volume... [Pg.483]

Such relative lack of kinetic impact of olefinic fluorine substituents on alkyl radical addition reactions is consistent with Tedder s early studies on methyl affinities, the results of which are shown in Table 16, where the range of reactivities observed for the addition of methyl radical to ethylenes with varying fluorine content is seen to be relatively small [93,163],... [Pg.131]

Considerable variation in K(k values appear in the literature. For example, Mackay et al. (1992) provided 24 values of K(k for benzene, ranging from 0.11 to 2.08 L/kg. Variation is likely the result of differences in the sorption characteristics of SOM, variation in the methods used to determine K(k (separation of phases, mass balance, single point, or isotherm, kinetics), impact of other soil properties, and the properties of chemicals being sorbed. The variability in Koc values is generally greater for the more polar compounds. [Pg.185]

Numerical subtraction of linear contribution in release kinetics from total concentration of the drug (shown in Figure 1) has been performed for separation of the diffusion and kinetic impacts. The solution of Eq 3 for plane sheet diffusion and small times (i.e. under condition 0 < Gt/G00 < 0.60) has the classical form... [Pg.142]

In the diabatic model, the hindered rotations pass through every avoided crossing diabatically and consequently changes in electronic character are not used to minimize hindered rotation barriers. In the adiabatic model, hindered rotations stay on the adiabatic surface as it makes sharp changes in electronic character and consequently there is a minimization of hindered rotation barriers. The actual coupling of electronic and rotational motion will range between these two extremes and the variation in the rate constant for these two models is a measure of the maximum kinetics impact this coupling can have. [Pg.213]

Classical ion trajectory computer simulations based on the BCA are a series of evaluations of two-body collisions. The parameters involved in each collision are tire type of atoms of the projectile and the target atom, the kinetic energy of the projectile and the impact parameter. The general procedure for implementation of such computer simulations is as follows. All of the parameters involved in tlie calculation are defined the surface structure in tenns of the types of the constituent atoms, their positions in the surface and their themial vibration amplitude the projectile in tenns of the type of ion to be used, the incident beam direction and the initial kinetic energy the detector in tenns of the position, size and detection efficiency the type of potential fiinctions for possible collision pairs. [Pg.1811]

Thermal Oxidative Stability. ABS undergoes autoxidation and the kinetic features of the oxygen consumption reaction are consistent with an autocatalytic free-radical chain mechanism. Comparisons of the rate of oxidation of ABS with that of polybutadiene and styrene—acrylonitrile copolymer indicate that the polybutadiene component is significantly more sensitive to oxidation than the thermoplastic component (31—33). Oxidation of polybutadiene under these conditions results in embrittlement of the mbber because of cross-linking such embrittlement of the elastomer in ABS results in the loss of impact resistance. Studies have also indicated that oxidation causes detachment of the grafted styrene—acrylonitrile copolymer from the elastomer which contributes to impact deterioration (34). [Pg.203]

Impacts and Explosives. The coUision of high velocity bullets or other projectiles with soHds causes rapid conversion of kinetic to thermal energy. Plasmas result iacidentaHy, whereas the primary effects of impact are shock and mechanical effects in the target. Impact-produced plasmas are hot enough to cause thermonuclear bum (180). [Pg.117]

Radial density gradients in FCC and other large-diameter pneumatic transfer risers reflect gas—soHd maldistributions and reduce product yields. Cold-flow units are used to measure the transverse catalyst profiles as functions of gas velocity, catalyst flux, and inlet design. Impacts of measured flow distributions have been evaluated using a simple four lump kinetic model and assuming dispersed catalyst clusters where all the reactions are assumed to occur coupled with a continuous gas phase. A 3 wt % conversion advantage is determined for injection feed around the riser circumference as compared with an axial injection design (28). [Pg.513]
