Thank you very much for your e-mail, offering yom condolences to the nntimely demise of Professor Ohtaki. 1 heard the sad news yesterday in Tokyo, when we were having a meeting in the Chemical Society of Japan for onr lUPAC activity. He was a key person of many international activities such as Eurasian Conference, lUPAC, Pacifichem, etc. and we all miss him and his services.

Whenever process development leaves the laboratory scale, the know-how which is weU established within the research group must be transferred to staff in the development department. Both groups are facing only minor obstacles as they know each other very well, and communication is es-tabhshed between the key persons.
