I thank Keith U. Ingold for having introduced me to this subject. When I arrived in Ottawa at the National Research Council of Canada in 1979 for three years postdoctoral work with him, very little was known on the reactivity of silyl radicals. At that time, several papers dealing with kinetics of silyl radicals were published, which allowed the reactivity of silyl radical to be translated into a quantitative base. Special thanks go to David Griller for his collaboration on the initial work on hydrogen donor abilities of silicon hydrides during the late 1980s. [Pg.2]

David Scales wrote the early editions of this chapter and his insight and knowledge are gratefully acknowledged. Thanks also to Andrew Sullivan, Steve Damment, John Hyde, Malcolm Tucker, Mark Sutherland, David Gatehouse, Pete Sibley, David Alexander and Keith Capel-Edwards for their help, advice and input to the early editions. Finally thanks go to Ms Samantha Robertson and Ms Cassie Hill for their expertise in typing the original manuscript. [Pg.140]

David Edgerton, The prophet militant and industrial the peculiarities of Correlli Barnett , Twentieth Century British History 2 (1991), 360-79. The contributors to Bruce Collins and Keith Robbins (eds.), British Culture and Economic Decline (London Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1990), deal critically with Barnett s thesis and also the work of Martin J. Wiener, English Culture and the Decline of the Industrial Spirit 1850-1980 (Cambridge University Press, 1981), pointing out that cultural differences between Britain and Germany were less significant than is often supposed. [Pg.3]

This research was supported by the National Science Foundation under grant CPE 8304381, the Department of Planning and Economic Development of the State of Hawaii, and the Coral Industries Endowment. The authors thank Dr. Maria Burka (NSF), Kent Keith and Dr. Tak Yoshihara (DPED), and David Chalmers (Coral Industries) for their interest in this work. The authors also thank William Mok for his continuing assistance with the flow reactor, Dr. A1 i Tabatabaie-Raissi, and Professor Maitland Jones (Princeton) for many stimulating discussions. The comments of the reviewers were appreciated. [Pg.85]
