Key trends for novel, environmentally more benign, processes are (i) replacement of stoichiometric processes by catalytic ones, (ii) process steps with 100% conversion and 100% selectivity (iii) the highest possible substrate concentration (iv) environmentally acceptable solvents with few solvent changes (v) avoidance of buffers and salt production, but instead use of solid acids and bases and pH-stat techniques. Examples of novel processes included in the discussion are ... [Pg.569]

The ethyl glycinate-iV,Ar-diacetic acid derivative (12) may be used to illustrate the general features of these reactions. Hydrolysis of the copper(II) complex in the pH range 5-7, studied by pH-stat, corresponds to equation (15) where EGDA = ethyl glycinate-JV,N-diacetate and... [Pg.6566]

Another example of multicompartment micellar IPECs is the macromolec-ular co-assembly of the triblock terpolymer poly(Af,Af-dimethylacrylamide)- /ocfc-poly(A-acryloylalanine)-fetocA -poly(iV-isopropylacrylamide) or the diblock terpolymer poly(A,A-dimethylacrylamide)-fe/(9cA -poly(Ai-isopropylacrylamide)-stat-(A-acryloylvaline), interacting in aqueous media with poly(ar-vinylbenzyl) trimethylammonium chloride (PVBTAC) [76, 77], The authors demonstrated that interpolyelectrolyte complexation of such assemblies formed with PVBTAC within specific pH and temperature ranges makes them stable with respect to the disassembly induced by cooling below critical micellization temperatures. [Pg.155]

Fig. 1. Mechanisms of IFN-y-stimulat-ed MHC class II transcription. Step 1 IFN-y binds to its receptor and triggers the phosphorylation of the receptor-associated kinases JAKl and JAK2. The JAKs phosphorylate latent cytoplasmic STAT-1, which forms a homodimer that translocates to the nucleus to activate IFN-y-stimulated genes. Step 2 IFN-y-stimulated STAT-1 homodimers and IRF-1 cooperatively bind with the ubiquitously expressed USF-1 at CIITA promoter IV to activate CIITA expression. Step 3 CIITA activates MHC class II transcription through protein-protein interactions with ubiquitously expressed class Il-promoter-binding transcription factors RFX, CREB, and NF-Y... Fig. 1. Synthesis. Polyampholytes are most readily prepared by the direct statistical copolymerization of anionic and cationic monomers typically in aqueous media, via conventional free radical pol3unerization. Examples of such materials were first reported in the 1950s (240-244). Using this approach a wide range of copolymers and terpolymers, often with a neutral hydrophilic monomer such as acrylamide, have been reported. For example, early reports of statistical polyampholytes include the methacrylic acid-stat-2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate copolymers (245), from IZ and 2Z with 6Z and the iV,A(-diethylallylamine-stat-acrylic acid copolymers from IZ and 6Z (246). More recently, synthesis and properties of novel polyampholytic terpol5uners have been described (247-250). For example, the aqueous solution properties of novel ampholytic terpolymers of acrylamide, sodium 3-acrylamido-3-methylbutanoate 5Z and 3-(acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride 8Z have been studied in detail (187). [Pg.9203]
