Isooctanoic acid

M4 Thickener. A standard incendiary oil thickener. It is a diacid A soap of isooctanoic acids derived from isooctyl ale or isooctyl aldehyde obtd from the oxidn of petroleum. It contains 2% Santocel C or Attaclay SF which serves as an antiagglorherant. About 1/2 the amt of M4 and about 1/10 mixing time is reqd for M4 Thickener as compared to Ml for thickened fuels of comparable consistency. Fuels prepd with M4 are superior in flame throwing performance with respect to range, burning and target effects, as compared with fuels prepd with other thickeners... [Pg.19]

Non-drying oil resins are soluble only in Aromatic hydrocarbons. They are used with amino resins for stoving finishes for appliances. Medium resins are used as plasticisers for cellulose nitrate. Along with natural oils several natural occurring and synthetic acid like resin (abiotic acid) pelargonic acid and isooctanoic acid are added to modify alkye resins. The alkyd resins are obtained by two processes, i.e., (1) Fatty Acid Process and (2) Alcoholysis process. [Pg.188]

Polymixin B sulfate is a cyclic heptapeptide having a linear tripeptide side chain [1368]. This side chain N-terminal is aceylated and the major by-product components are 6-methyloctanoic acid, isooctanoic acid, and heptanoic acid. These byproducts are separated from the parent using a 30 C C,g column (A = 215nm) and a 22.25/50/5/22.75 acetonitrile/water (0.7m/v sodium sulfate)/water (6.8% f 3P04)/water mobile phase. Samples were 0.5mg/mL. Elution was complete in 45 min. The explanation for the long analysis time is that there are another ten unidentified by-products that are resolved from the peaks of interest. Plots of the effects of percent acetonitrile and concentrations of sodium sulfate and H3PO4 are presented. [Pg.474]

In addition to the above-mentioned oils there are also several naturally-occurring and synthetic acids which are used for modifying purposes in the manufacture of alkyd resins. These include rosin (the main constituent of which is abietic acid (XIX)) and the adduct of rosin and maleic anhydride (XXI) in the formation of this adduct it is supposed that abietic acid isomerizes to the conjugated diene, levopimaric acid (XX), before addition occurs. The synthetic fatty acids pelargonic acid (XXII) and isooctanoic acid (XXIII) are also sometimes used as modifying acids in the preparation of alkyd resins. [Pg.226]
