Iron interactions with other metals

Interaction of iron oxides with other metal oxides and carbonates 1407... [Pg.408]

Because 1,4-dichlorobenzene is a liver toxin, it probably can interact with other chemicals that are liver toxicants. These toxicants are many, and include ethanol, halogenated hydrocarbons (chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, etc ), benzene, and other haloalkanes and haloalkenes. In addition, 1,4-dichlorobenzene toxicity may also be exacerbated by concurrent exposure with acetaminophen, heavy metals (copper, iron, arsenic), aflatoxins, pyrrolizidine alkaloids (from some types of plants), high levels of vitamin A, and hepatitis viruses. Such interactions could either be additive or S5mergistic effects. [Pg.152]

In addition to cobalt and iron (discussed above), other metals frequently function as cofactors in enzyme-catalyzed reactions. Like coenzymes, they are useful because they offer something not available in amino acid side chains. The most important of such features of metals are their high concentration of positive charge, their directed valences for interacting with two or more ligands, and their ability to exist in two or more valence states. [Pg.220]

Some studies describe interactions of inorganic tin and organotin compounds with other chemicals which either increase or decrease the toxicological properties of the tin compounds. Iron and copper lessen the effects of growth depression and decreased hemoglobin seen in rats fed stannous chloride at high doses for 4-13 weeks (DeGroot 1973). Tin also interacts with other essential metals. In bioavailability studies in humans, zinc uptake was decreased when tin, iron, and zinc were administered in equal doses (Solomon et al. 1983). [Pg.111]
