Ionic liquid continued synthesis

The ionic liquids field continues to develop at an incredible rate. No sooner do I think that I am on top of the literature than it turns out that a whole new area of work has emerged without me noticing. Things that were once supposedly impossible in ionic liquids, such as measuring the II NMR of solutes, are now widely applicable (see Chapter 8). Hence, collected volumes such as this are very welcome. This volume complements some other excellent texts, notably Electrodeposition in ionic liquids , edited by Frank Endres, Andy Abbott and Doug MacFarlane Electrochemical Aspects of Ionic Liquids edited by Hiro Ohno Ionic liquids in Synthesis , edited by Peter Wasserscheid and myself and a recent collected volume of Accounts of Chemical Research. [Pg.354]

The effect of hydrophobicity of some ionic liquids was explored (119) in a recent example of a condensation synthesis involving a quaternary ammonium amide. The water produced was continuously removed from the reaction mixture, producing a much higher yield than had previously been possible for this reaction in other media. [Pg.198]

Some groups have reported on their search for less reactive acylating agents, to suppress noncatalyzed chemical acylation and increase product enantiomeric excess. Irimescu and Kato carried out an enantioselective lipase catalyzed acylation of 1 phenylethylamine and 2 phenyl 1 propylamine by reacting the amines with carbox ylic acids in a nonsolvent system or in ionic liquids (Figure 14.9). The reaction equilibrium was shifted toward amide synthesis by the continuous removal of the... [Pg.435]

The primary emphasis of most published work on the Wittig reaction, and its counterparts, continues to be applications in synthesis. A potentially useful advance in this area is the use of ionic liquids as a medium for Wittig reactions. Developments in the coordination chemistry of ylide derivatives, particularly iminophosphoranes, continue apace and show that these compounds afford a diverse range of metal complexes. [Pg.377]

However, some scattered works have continued to refine and perfect existing electrochemical synthesis, playing e.g., on the temperature or changing solvents. Recently, some new impulse has been given by the appearance of the new electrolytic media, in particular ionic liquids, which have renewed considerably the field of organic synthesis and electrosynthesis. [Pg.756]
