Interviews business case

Business cases tend to be more structured than estimation cases. The interview will be an interactive conversation in which your interviewer will answer your queries, ask you some questions, and provide guidance as you solve the problem. [Pg.254]

The aim of this research is to study if the Chinese cultural and social embedded guanxi networks are important in business practices and how they influence buyer-seller relationships and performances in vegetable supply chains in China. We interviewed 8 case companies to explore their guanxi network, trust, transaction specific investments, channel and governance choices and performance attributes of transaction costs and quality satisfaction. For example, suppose the interviewer has just told you that the company s objective for the year is to develop new business in a particular area and, consequently, certain departments will be reorganized or perhaps created to meet the new objective. You could start your response by summarizing "Because the company is interested in new business development. I m sure you re looking for people with initiative and creativity." Business problem cases or "full case" interviews present the candidate with an open-ended business situation. Usually more complex and well developed than shorter estimation cases, these cases have no right answer and test your ability to think through issues to a conclusion that you can defend. [Pg.146]

Transaction specific investments are required for the company to be involved in the vegetable industry. Both physical and human investments are required. Case interview showed that guanxi network can influence companies behaviours in terms of transaction specific investments. Most of the companies agreed that they got requests form their buyers regarding investment to improve food quality and safety. The decision will be made depend on the expectation of the future business chance with this buyer. [Pg.40]

Comparison of the base case with several test cases has shown that the model can provide useful output regarding economic driving forces favouring one disposal option over alternatives, and shows that the dismantling business is economically sound, but shredding profits are thin, and in accord with information gathered in field interviews. [Pg.55]

The discussion of the two cases presented below (diffusion of waterbased paints in the decorative and industrial paints businesses) should be seen in the context of the model discussed by Ashford, Ayers and Stone (1985). Paints are a fairly mature line of business, which is nevertheless characterized by the persistency of product innovations. It is argued that innovations in the decorative paints business might have more to do with marketing and creation of new customer niches, than with new formulations. However, new formulations can be achieved, and raw materials suppliers exist to provide inputs to producers innovative efforts. What matters most to this industry though, is customers needs and access to customers (Interview, 1999).
