International Standards Organization/Open

Abbreviated from International Standards Organization-Open System Interconnection. They are the physical, data link, network, transports session, presentation, and application layers. Only the physical, data link, and application layers are present in the mini-MAP. 

The sieve is made of a wire mesh cloth of standard sizes held in place by a circular metal frame. The diameter of the sieve ranges from 4 to 18 in., and the height may vary from 1 to 2 in. Three popular sieve series are used the Tyler Series, the first commercial laboratory screens the U.S. Standard Series and the U.S. Alternative Series. Both the U.S. Alternative Series and the Tyler Series designations use the approximate number of opening per linear inch. However, the U.S. Standard Series is the preferred designation and is recommended by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Table 15.3 shows the U.S. Sieve Series and Tyler Series equivalents for a selected number of screens.

Separation of mixtures of particulate solids according to size may be accomplished by a series of screens with openings of standard sizes. Table 12.1 compares several such standards. TheU.S. Standard sieves correspond to those recommended by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as an International Standard. The distribution of sizes of a given mixture often is important. 

The International Standards Organization introduced the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model to provide a common way of describing network protocols. They put together a seven-layer model providing a relationship between the stages of communication, with each layer adding to the layer above or below it. 

Data Link layer The second of seven layers of the International Standards Organization s Open Systems Interconnection (ISO/OSI) model for computer-to-computer communications. The Data Link layer validates the integrity of the flow of data from one node to another by synchronizing blocks of data and by controlling the flow of data. 

Open systems interconnection (OSI) model A framework for organizing networking technology developed by the International Standards Organization. 

One of the first standards for computer communications was proposed and developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) in the early 1980s. This network architecture model, the open systems interconnection (OSI) reference model shown in Fig. 1, describes a network through seven layers.
