Internal tides

Zgkmen, Tamay M. The Shaping of Continental Slopes by Internal Tides. Science 31, no. 12 (2001) 3569-3580. [Pg.636]

Additional calculations (10) indicated that the movements of the intrusions produced localized turbulent mixing ascribed to shear instabilities. These mixing events, driven by the M2 internal tides, caused a potentially efficient mechanism for vertical transport of heat and salt as input to the Scotian Shelf. These vertical-mixing events, which continually replenish nutrients (e.g., nitrates, nitrites, silicates, and inorganic phosphates) from slope waters below, can explain the anomalously high productivity occurring at the front. [Pg.303]

A number of files under the generic tide CAS ONLINE are available on-line on STN International. The system software, MESSENGER, includes chemical substmcture, text, and numeric data searching facHities. Chemical stmctures and Registry Numbers are contained in the CA Registry file. The four ways to search the stmctures are EXA, EAM, SSS, and CSS. [Pg.117]

In 1954, the 10th CGPM added the degree Kelvin as the unit of temperature and the candela as the unit of luminous intensity. At the time of the 11th CGPM in 1960, this new system with six base units was formalized with the tide International System of Units. Its abbreviation in all languages is SI, from the French l e Sjstume International d Unitus. [Pg.307]

Intracellular antigens could be modified internal proteins, which are continuously removed by the cell, the structure altered and attached to MHC I. This takes place in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The protein/pep tide-hapten fragments are then presented to the external surface of the cell membrane as a complex with the MHC I. Then cytotoxic T cells (CD8+) accept the protein/peptide and destroy the cell. This mechanism gives rise to a type IV response. [Pg.254]
