Interfacial rheological properties

The interfacial rheologic properties are extremely sensitive parameters toward the chemical composition of immiscible formation liquids [1053]. Therefore comparison and interpretation of the interfacial rheologic properties may contribute significantly to extension of the spectrum of the reservoir characterization, better understanding of the displacement mechanism, development of more profitable enhanced and improved oil-recovery methods, intensification of the surface technologies, optimization of the pipe line transportation, and improvement of the refinery operations [1056]. [Pg.224]

Interfacial rheologic properties of different crude oil-water systems were determined in wide temperature and shear rate ranges and in the presence of inorganic electrolytes, surfactants, alkaline materials, and polymers [1056]. [Pg.224]

Caustic Waterflooding. In caustic waterflooding, the interfacial rheologic properties of a model crude oil-water system were studied in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The interfacial viscosity, the non-Newtonian flow behavior, and the activation energy of viscous flow were determined as a function of shear rate, alkali concentration, and aging time. The interfacial viscosity drastically... [Pg.224]

Interfacial rheological properties are expressed as interfacial elasticity and interfacial viscosity. Based on the study of coalescence of cmde oil droplets, Malhotra and Wasan (70, 71) concluded that there is a good correlation between coalescence time and interfacial viscosity, i.e., the higher... [Pg.534]

In the foregoing sections, we have seen that adsorption dynamics, that is, the rate by which the interfacial tension decreases upon adsorption of the emulsifying or foaming agent, as well as the interfacial rheological properties play key roles in the formation and subsequent long-term stability of emulsions and foams. The coarseness and the stability of these dispersions may therefore be modulated on the basis of adsorption dynamics and interfacial rheological properties. [Pg.371]

The interactions between proteins and low-molecular-weight surfactants at interfaces have crucial effects on physical states of interfaces, such as interfacial energy, interfacial rheological properties, C potential, and thickness of adsorbed layer. The competitive displacement of globular proteins by surfactants at liquid interfaces (normally, oil-water interfaces) has been extensively... [Pg.48]

Moreover, this model can also involve parameters that refer to the interfacial rheological properties, such as the interfacial dilation modulus and the interfacial shear modulus (Jacobs et al. 1999). Consequently, quantitative measurements of... [Pg.7]
