Transmission pipelines operating at high pressures are always constructed of welded steel. Recommendations are contained in the Institution of Gas Engineers publication TD/1, Steel Pipelines for High Pressure Gas Transmission. 

Services may be constructed of steel, ductile iron or polyethylene depending on operating pressure, etc. Recommendations are given in the Institution of Gas Engineers publication TD/4, Gas Services. 

Guidance on pipework in users premises is given in the British Gas publication Guidance Notes on the Installation of Gas Pipework, Boosters and Compressors in Customers Premises (lM/16). Certain Institution of Gas Engineers publications are also of relevance, particularly TD/3, Distribution Mains and TD/4, Gas Services.
