Input of pollutants

To obtain the mass emissions of pollutants from e-waste recycling processes, it is essential that the inputs of pollutants are truly e-waste related. To fulfill this requirement, a causal analysis is desirable. However, the concept of causation is rather problematic because causal mechanisms are complex [26]. Nonetheless, we are compelled to identify causes, in an attempt to minimize the uncertainties associated with our estimates. In this chapter, the strict empiricist, David Hume s empirical criterion, was adopted. This approach requires only a combination of (1) e-waste processing and environmental pollution are associated in space and time (contiguity) (2) e-waste processing precede to environmental pollution (temporal succession) and (3) e-waste processing is always conjoined with environmental pollution (consistent conjunction). These are always the cases judged from a number of previous studies [6, 27-35]. [Pg.282]

These ecosystems are in South Chilean geographical region with predominant acid Andosols and intensive rank of biogeochemical cycling the mean value of Ch is 1.2, the mean value of C( is 0.75, and the mean value of Chr is 0.9. These ecosystems (Deciduous Broadleaf Forest and Steppe) are sensitive and very sensitive to input of pollutants, especially acid deposition. [Pg.328]

Pollution of lake water is caused by the inputs of polluted river water, grotmd water and acid water from metal mines. Pollution and acidification of lake water have been considerably investigated by the model analyses. pH and the changes in the water quality of lake water inputted by acid rainwater and acidified river water will be considered below. [Pg.194]

Ocean becomes to be polluted due to the input of polluted river water. Pollutants, particularly base metals are enriched in inland sea and closed sea caused by the input of polluted river water (Holland and Petersen 1995). For example, enrichment... [Pg.200]

Base metal pollution of ocean is caused not only by the input of polluted river water, but also by dissolution from ship paint. This Cu flux is about 1 % of riverine flux (Goldberg 1976). [Pg.201]
