Inorganic association

The chemical analysis does not distinguish between minerals and inorganics in the lignite. Despite this drawback, it was possible to detect trends occurring in the inorganics associated with the lignite. [Pg.26]

Although most trace elements appear to be largely inorganically associated, several of them have a strong affinity for the organic portion of the coal and are believed to be present as metal chelates. Among the elements in this category are B, Be, and Ge (6,9-12). [Pg.71]

The SEDEX procedure has emerged as the benchmark extraction scheme for sediments. It uses only magnesium chloride, acetate buffeg and citrate/di-thionite-bicarbonate reagents at pH values between 4 and 8 to leach sediments of the inorganic associated phosphorus fractions before ashing at 550°C and a final extraction with 1M HCl to determine the so-called residual organic phosphorus. [Pg.3715]

The HCl by-product of the amidation reaction is neutralized by also dissolving an inorganic base in the aqueous layer in interfacial polymerization. The choice of the organic solvent plays a role in determining the properties of the polymer produced, probably because of differences in solvent goodness for the resulting polymer. Since this reaction is carried out at low temperatures, the complications associated with side reactions can be kept to a minimum. [Pg.307]

Once the potential associated with this aspect of molecular architecture is recognized, the principles of the last section coupled with the richness of organic (and inorganic) chemistry suggest numerous synthetic possibilities. We shall not attempt to be comprehensive in discussing this facet of polymer chemistry instead we cite only a few examples of step-growth polymers which incorporate... [Pg.334]

Problems associated with excessive levels of nutrients and unwanted nuisance species have already been mentioned. There are cases in which intentional fertilization is used by aquaculturists in order to produce desirable types of natural food for the species under culture. Examples of this approach include inorganic fertilizer appHcations in ponds to promote phytoplankton and zooplankton blooms that provide food for young fish such as channel catfish, the development of algal mats through fertilization of milkfish ponds, and the use of organic fertilizers (from Hvestock and human excrement) in Chinese carp ponds to encourage the growth of phytoplankton, macrophytes, and benthic invertebrates. In the latter instance, various species of carp with different food habits are stocked to ensure that all of the types of natural foods produced as a result of fertilization are consumed. [Pg.20]

Tables 1 and 2 Hst the important physical properties of formamide. Form amide is more highly hydrogen bonded than water at temperatures below 80°C but the degree of molecular association decreases rapidly with increa sing temperature. Because of its high dielectric constant, formamide is an excellent ionizing solvent for many inorganic salts and also for peptides, proteias (eg, keratin), polysaccharides (eg, cellulose [9004-34-6] starch [9005-25-8]) and resias. The alimentary symptoms may be overshadowed by neuromuscular dysfunction, accompanied by signs of motor weakness that may progress to paralysis of the exterior muscles or the wrist (wrist drop), and less often, of the ankles (foot drop). Encephalopathy, the most serious result of lead poisoning, frequendy occurs in children as a result of pica, ie, ingestion of inorganic lead compounds in paint chips this rarely occurs in adults. Nephropathy has also been associated with chronic lead poisoning (147). The toxic effects of lead may be most pronounced on the developing fetus. Consequendy, women must be particulady cautious of lead exposure (148). The U.S. Center for Disease Control recommends a blood level of less than 10 p.m per 100 mL for children. [Pg.73]
