Inline instrumentation

Future plans include an improved Ge(Li) gamma counter for packages 6f scrap and new and improved inline instruments. Under consideration is a computerized plutonium accountability of the overall Plutonium Reclamation Facility. 

The LC-NMR instrument is a very attractive analytical tool in that it has the potential to provide a great deal of data detailing many structural features in an inline mode. The principle advantage to using hyphenated NMR technology is that in most cases one can collect NMR and MS data on the same sample reducing the possibility of decomposition during the isolation and sample preparation process. 

Several commercial instrument designs have effectively overcome this inherent problem and can record high-energy CID product ion spectra. The Applied Biosystems 4700 Proteomics Analyzer was one of the two originally available commercial TOF/TOF designs76,77 (Fig. 24). The term online implies that analytical methods gain information directly from the process. This is in contrast to offline analytics, where a sample is taken from the process and transferred to a central analytical laboratory with sophisticated instrumentation. Formally, online analytical techniques can be further classified into atline, online, inline, and noninvasive techniques [6, 7]. 

Online A sample is automatically removed from the process, conditioned, and then passed to the process analyzer for measurement. Online analysis can be continuous, where the sample flows continually through the analyzer, or intermittent, where aliquots of the sample are injected into the instrument at various time intervals. A dedicated instrument is utilized for the analysis of the process stream. Included under the umbrella of online techniques are inline and noninvasive techniques. 

Inline Analysis is carried out by a probe that is placed directly inside the process stream. This removes the need for a separate side arm to transport the sample for analysis to the instrument. 

Online or inline process analytics (UV-Vis, IR, Raman, NMR, GC, MS) have a crucial role for providing information on the nature of species and their dynamic changes. The instruments should be able to fit into microreactors and should have low dead volume and fast dynamic changes. Such smart, commercial analytical instruments are entering the PI market. 

Ceramic dual inline package (CERDIP). The DIP package was developed by Fairchild Semiconductor and Texas Instruments followed with a metal topped ceramic package that resolved problems with the early ceramic packaged parts. 

The diesel generator fuel oil transfer system consists of two independent fuel storage, transfer and recirculation flow paths that is, one path per diesel generator. Each path consists of a fuel oil storage tank, one fuel transfer pump, diesel fuel oil supply and fuel return piping, a day tank, and the associated specialties valves, fittings, and instrumentation. The supply lines from the transfer pumps to the day tanks include fuel oil heaters, filters and moisture separators. The system is protected from the effects of low temperatures by the inline electric oil heater in the transfer line.
