The techniques of graft polymerization have been developed for liquid as well as gas phase. One of the polymerization techniques comprises impregnation of cellulose by a solution of conjugated monomers, followed by soaking in a relevant initiator. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) is another, solvent-less technique, used for thin layer deposition of conjugated polymer on fibers [33]. Three CVD methods have been developed physical vaporization CVD [34, 35], plasma-enhanced CVD [36], and thermally initiated CVD [37, 38]. However, low conductivity is achieved when dopants are not used.

Initially, the main disadvantage of using single-source precursors was their lack of volatility. However, the advent of ultralow-pressure and vacuum CVD techniques, along with the use of alternative delivery methods which do not rely primarily on precursor volatility, means that many compounds that are essentially nonvolatile can now be considered as potential CVD precursors. A major problem that remains, however, is that of stoichiometry control a molecular precursor containing two (or more) elements in a specific ratio, as desired within the thin film to be grown, will not necessarily deposit those elements in the same proportions. 

For this purpose, all three catalyst supports were initially synthesized by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process and thereafter, using a wet impregnation method, loaded with cobalt as the active component for FTS. The as-synthesized Co/nanocatalysts were then characterized by applying electron microscopic analysis as well as temperature-programmed desorption, chemi- and physisorption measurements, thermogravimetric analysis, and inductively coupled plasma... 

Atherosclerosis, a disease of the vascular wall, is the substrate for the arterial forms of CVD. Atherosclerotic plaques exhibit a focal distribution along the arterial tree as a consequence of local conditions that favor their initiation and progression. Low or reversed shear stress, for example, contributes to plaque development, a process in which the regulation of several genes may be involved (Resnick and Gimbrone 1995). 

Hormone therapy has proven highly effective in controlling the menopausal syndrome, especially severe hot flushes (MacLennan et al. 2004), even at doses significantly lower than those used until now (Speroff et al. 2000 Utian et al. 2001). Women s Health Initiative studies found that hormone replacement therapy, when administered as a primary prevention intervention for CVD in older women, increases the risk of heart disease and breast cancer. Even if a protective effect on fracture and colon cancer was observed, the risk-benefit ratio led to a recommendation of this treatment only for the short-term relief of menopausal symptoms (Rossouw et al. 2002 Anderson et al. 2004). The role of early administration of ovarian hormones to young postmenopausal women in the prevention of cardiovascular disease or late dementia remains... 

CVD processes can also be used to grow polymers from nanocarbons. An important example is the coating of a CNT forest with a thin layer of poly(tetrafluorethlylene) (PTFE) via hot filament CVD to produce a superhydrophobic substrate [245]. Here, a vertically aligned MWCNT forest was prepared and placed in a CVD reaction chamber. Hexafluorpropylene oxide gas was then thermally decomposed to form the reactive radical difluorocarbene (CF2) and flowed over the CNT substrate along with a small amount of initiator where direct polymerization of PTFE onto the CNTs occurred [245].
