Initial Survey

In preparing a planned maintenance system the opportunity should be taken to involve the whole department. This can be achieved by using the operatives who will subsequently action the work to carry out the initial survey of plant and equipment. [Pg.785]

If a large number of samples have to be analysed, a method that is simple and rapid is to be preferred so that data can be acquired quickly and with the minimum of effort and cost. As a result of this initial survey, you might be able to decide between ... [Pg.59]

The most comprehensive technique currently available for the initial survey of the distribution of a drug is that of whole body autoradiography. The species of animals used include mice, rats, hamsters, monkeys, pigs, dogs, and ferrets. The most widely used animal has been the mouse, which has the advantages of requiring less isotope and being easier to section. [Pg.729]

An initial survey smdied the cycloaddition between 341 (R = Me) and mal-eimide in the presence of copper(II) acetate and 1 M equiv of EtsN with pyridine as solvent, leading to the formation of the expected adduct 342 at room temperature after a few hours. The reaction delivered a single product arising from an endo transition state in 60% yield. The reaction protocol was further extended to include... [Pg.244]

The recommendations are clear. While semi-empirical models appear to perform adequately in most cases in the role of supplying reactant and transition-state geometries, some caution needs to be exercised. On the other hand, structures from small-basis-set Hartree-Fock models turn in an overall excellent account. The 3-2IG model, in particular, would appear to be an excellent choice for supplying transition-state geometries for organic reactions, at least insofar as initial surveys. [Pg.425]

In an initial survey at the University of Auckland in 2004 on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec wines, subject to MOX in 2000-L tanks at 4-8 mg/L/month for 12 weeks post-MLF, no changes were seen in the aroma profiles of the wines (vs. controls) for a wide range of aroma compounds, including herbaceous methoxypyrazines and C6 alcohols, floral terpenes and (3-ionone, or for fruity esters and higher alcohols (Rowdon, 2005). Likewise, the concentrations of the varietal thiol 3MH,... [Pg.172]

From these initial survey results, we postulate that the dominant species formed by the rhodium complexes of tetraphosphine ligand 2 are the same as the rhodium complex formed by Josiphos ligand 1 and the two catalytic sites in ligand 2 act essentially independently. [Pg.297]

As a result, while such methods have been very useful in the past and continue to be applied for initial surveys of air quality in areas in which measurements have not been made in the past, they have generally been abandoned in favor of instrumental methods of analysis. As a result, this chapter focuses on the most commonly used instrumental, often spectroscopic, methods for measuring air pollutants, trace gases, and particles in air (e.g., see Roscoe and Clemitshaw, 1997). The focus is on tropospheric measurements, although, in most cases, the same techniques are used in the stratosphere. [Pg.547]

Because of the similar energy of the two possible resonances that can ensure hydration of the pteridine cation (namely, 4-aminopyridinium stabilization of 7,8-hydration and amidinium stabilization of 3,4-hydration3 ), a study of the effects of substituents on this delicately balanced system was undertaken. An initial survey showed that the majority of pteridine cations were subject neither to dihydration nor to shifting hydration. Only four examples were found in which 5,6,7,8-dihydration was preceded by 3,4-hydration, namely 2-methyl-, 6-methyl-, 7-methyl-, and 2-amino-4-methylpteridine, whereas the related cations of 6,7-dimethyl-, 2-amino-, 2-amino-6-methyl-, and 2-amino-7-methylpteridine remained stably hydrated in the 3,4-position.8,40 Further examples, including a reversed direction of shift, came to light from a... [Pg.133]

Probably the most complete study of river water quality w as completed by the U.S. Geological Survey, released in early 1987 and periodically updated. The initial survey was coordinated by Smith and Alexander (USGS) and Wolman (The Johns Hopkins University), including water quality records from two nationwide sampling networks. The network included over 300 locations on the major nvers of the United States. Twenty-four water quality parameters are measured. Originally, the two networks were comprised of (1) the National Stream Quality Accounting Network (NaSQUaN) and (2) the National Water Quality Surveillance System (NWQSS). Locations of stations are shown on the map in Fig. 1. The measured water-quality indicators include ... [Pg.1726]

Photographs taken of distribution decks, tower packing, nozzles, waterfall patterns, sumps, etc. can be useful but are almost never taken, either during an initial survey or during the implementation of any subsequent water treatment contract. Both vendors and operators tend to rely on memories, which are notoriously selective and not quantifiable. [Pg.280]

Some initial survey information was presented by the distributor, with a request for an interpretation and any comments and advice on how to proceed. [Pg.287]

The halogenated spiro-chamigrene, and related metabolites represent a huge class of marine natural products, mainly from Laurencia seaweeds. The initial survey documented 85 examples (7). [Pg.51]

In contrast to the small number of known halogenated (chlorinated) terrestrial diterpenes (vide supra), the number of marine diterpenes is very large, and more than 130 were documented in the initial survey (7). [Pg.62]

The dietary intake of OCPs is considered the main source of exposure for the general population in Australia and in many other countries. Estimates of dietary intakes of OCPs from AMBS are summarised in Tables 17.3 and 17.4 for the years 1971 to 1996. The initial survey in 1970 estimated that excessive intakes of dieldrin and HCB could occur in the diets of 15 18 year old males. Dieldrin and HCB had estimated daily intakes from 0.4 to 1.8 (0.1) and 0.7 to 1.4 (0.6) pg kg-1 bw, respectively. For comparison the accepted daily intake (ADI) at the time is shown in parenthesis (NHMRC, 1971). By 1976, the estimated daily intake of dieldrin remained relatively high, particularly for infants (e.g. 0.1 pg kg-1 bw), while HCB residues in foods were too low to estimate a dietary intake. [Pg.762]

The most extensive effort involves quality assurance. CDC provides common quality control (QC) materials and all members use standardized QC procedures. In addition, CDC regularly surveys the CRMLN laboratories to ensure they meet the required criteria. Initially, surveys were conducted monthly however, as the laboratories gained experience and performance improved, the survey schedule was changed to bimonthly. These surveys use CDC frozen serum secondary reference materials that have been prepared using NCCLS C37-A protocol [28], TC surveys include three levels analyzed in duplicate in two runs. HDLC surveys include four levels analyzed in duplicate in four runs. As an additional check on the quantitative step of the HDLC method, a low-total cholesterol material with cholesterol concentration <100 mg/dl is added to the TC survey. LDLC surveys include four levels analyzed in quadruplicate in four runs. [Pg.161]

This chapter will concentrate primarily on features of the chemistry of diboron compounds of particular interest from the organometallic point of view. While our limited scope does not permit a comprehensive review of all aspects of diboron chemistry, we will initially survey some general features of the subject, with emphasis on unique synthetic aspects and on properties particularly characteristic of compounds containing a simple electron-pair bond between boron atoms. Previously, we published several review articles provided some aspects on boron chemistry,8 16 and including natural boron-containing compounds.17,18... [Pg.194]

Doubtlessly, there are also other computational analyses to be performed in the future, such as stochastic simulations, stoichiometric network analysis, sensitivity analysis, etc. However, for this initial survey, we only take this absolute minimum into account, while listing additional features of the respective software tools. [Pg.74]

According to the initial survey by the Hachinohe Fire Services Office, the casualties in the fire included 17 injured, 16 males and 1 female 3 were severely injured, 6... [Pg.65]
