Initial dehydration conditions, effect

In oriented, partially dehydrated multilayers, under conditions suitable for X-ray diffraction studies, the sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles retain much of their ATP energized Ca transport activity [200-202], The Ca transport can be initiated by flash-photolysis of P -l(2-nitro)phenyl-ethyladenosine-5 -triphosphate, caged ATP [203-208], The flash-photolysis of caged ATP rapidly releases ATP and effectively synchronizes the Ca transport cycle of the ensemble of Ca -ATPase molecules [190-192,201,209],... [Pg.78]

Metal hahdes in imidazolium ionic hquids offer unique enviromnents able to facihtate dehydration reactions. Under such conditions certain metal halides are able to catalyze formal hydride transfer reactions that otherwise do not occur in the ionic liquid media. We have now discovered two systems in which this transformation has been observed. The initial system involves the conversion of glucose to fractose followed by dehydration the second system involves the dehydration of glycedraldehyde dimer followed by isomerization to lactide. CrCls" anion is the only catalyst that has been effective for both systems. VCI3" is effective for the glyceraldehyde dimer system but not for glucose. [Pg.417]

Drzal et al. 90) have investigated the effect of interphase modification on interfacial moisture absorption. The fibers used were a surface treated and a surface treated and finished type A carbon fiber in the same epoxy matrix studied previously. Three equilibrium exposure conditions were investigated. 20 °C, 70 °C and 120 °C were selected for moisture equilibration of single fiber samples and for the neat epoxy resin. The interfacial shear strength was measured both in the saturated and the dehydrated cases and compared to the initial dry values. [Pg.28]

An illustrative example for the use of the Deloxan ASP solid acid catalyst is the esterification of free tallow fatty acid (acid number 205) with high boiling alcohols like 2-ethylhexanol. In the initial stages of the esterification reaction, the rate of reaction is determined by the effectiveness of water removal, an increase of catalyst concentration has only a minor effect on the rate under the selected test conditions within the first hour. For the sake of selectivity, i.e. decreasing side product formation by dehydration of the used alcohol, the catalyst concentration was kept low. [Pg.68]

I- H2O has been investigated by spectroscopic [37, 41,42] and theoretical [38, 43, 44] methods. Dynamical simulations of the dehydration reaction find two mechanisms to be operative in this reaction a fast loss of H2O initiated by hydrogen atom hopping, similar to that found following nitric acid excitation, and a slower dissociation, occurring after full or partial IVR [43,45]. Based on these mechanisms and rates, the dehydration of sulfuric acid is very effective under conditions of the upper stratosphere and mesosphere [46]. The rate of dehydration thus obtained is... [Pg.10]
