Inflammation inhibitors

Keta. Is, Trimethylpentanediol reportedly forms a cycHc ketal by heating it with benzophenone ia the presence of sulfonic acid catalysts at reflux temperatures ia toluene (64). These are said to be useful as aprotic solvents for ink-jet printing and as inflammation inhibitors for cosmetic preparations... [Pg.374]

Nitric oxide has a role in both acute and chronic inflammation. NOS-3 is involved in the vasodilation associated with acute inflammation. In experimental models of acute inflammation, inhibitors of NOS-3 have a dose-dependent protective effect, suggesting that nitric oxide promotes edema and vascular permeability. Nitric oxide has a detrimental effect in chronic models of arthritis dietary L-arginine supplementation exacerbates arthritis whereas protection is seen with NOS-2 inhibitors. Psoriasis lesions, airway epithelium in asthma, and inflammatory bowel lesions in humans all demonstrate elevated levels of nitric oxide and NOS-2. Synovial fluid from patients with arthritis contains increased oxidation products of nitric oxide, particularly peroxynitrite. [Pg.463]

Activation of the inducible enzyme becomes detectable 0-5-1 hour after application of the stress, and it persists for periods which depend on the nature and intensity of the stimulus. Under exceptional circiunstances the high rate of induced histamine formatation may be sufficiently prolonged to result in the development of shock . On the other hand, when the degree of activation of histidine decarboxylase is inadequate, tissue damage may occur as has been observed in the kidneys of endotoxin-treated rabbits . If histamine produced by inducible histidine decarboxylase is indeed a mediator of the slow phase of inflammation , inhibitors of this enzyme might possess anti-inflammatory action. It is thus of considerable interest that the ability of one class of anti-inflammatory drugs, the acidic group, to inhibit specific histidine decarboxylase runs parallel to their clinical activity . [Pg.244]

Some derivatives of the pyrrolobenzimidazoles (584)-(586) have found pharmacological use as cardiovascular agents <86GEP(0)3445669), inflammation inhibitors <85PHA462), and industrial application in the preparation of bleed fast printing inks <85GEP(O)3329340). Several derivatives of... [Pg.1019]

Vane s work also unveiled the relationship of acetylsall-cyllc add to the glucocorticoids, the steroidal Inflammation Inhibitors, especially to cortisol and Its derivatives. These block the enzyme phospholipase Aj and therefore the liberation of arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids. [Pg.318]

Traditionally, the drug counts as a non-steroidal inflammation inhibitor, although its anti-inflammatory effect is comparatively low, while its antipyretic and analgesic action predominate. There has been a series of studies so far to determine the molecular mode of action. [174]... [Pg.321]
