Industrial quality control safe operation

It is important that personnel understand how to achieve safe operation, but not at the exclusion of other important considerations, such as reliability, operability, and maintainability. The chemical industry has also found significant benefit to plant productivity and operability when SIS work processes are used to design and manage other instrumented protective systems (IPS), such as those mitigating potential economic and business losses. The CCPS book (2007) Guidelines for Safe and Reliable Instrumented Protective Systems discusses the activities and quality control measures necessary to achieve safe and reliable operation throughout the IPS lifecycle. [Pg.103]

Probably the most important aspect of reactor design and control for a substantial number of industrial processes involves heat transfer, that is, maintaining stable and safe temperature control. Temperature is the dominant variable in many chemical reactors. By dominant variable, we mean it plays a significant role in determining the economics, quality, safety, and operability of the reactor. The various heat transfer methods for chemical reactors are discussed in a qualitative way in this chapter, while subsequent chapters deal with these issues in detail with several illustrative quantitative examples. [Pg.2]

It is necessary that management, and aU those shop floor engineers working in chemical industries (who are looking after the process and maintenance) should operate their plants in a safe, pollution free manner along with an all-around efficiency in order to keep the pollution and the production costs in control while meeting the required product quality and delivery schedules for their products. Some of their main activities are given as follows ... [Pg.360]

In this chapter we have introduced the basic concepts of process dynamics and process control. The process dynamics determine how a process responds during transient conditions, such as plant start-ups and shutdowns, grade changes, and unusual disturbances. Process control enables the process to be maintained at the desired operating conditions, safely and efficiently, while satisfying environmental and product quality requirements. Without effective process control, it would be impossible to operate large-scale industrial plants. [Pg.10]
